Hi, I recently acquired a couple of small "Radius Special Silent Burner" caps from a stove friend in Sweden. These caps are beautiful items but it seemed unlikely that I would ever find the special small burners on which they fit: The Radius one-piece cap is approximately 42mm max diameter, with an overall height of 23mm. The hole for the burner spigot is approx 14.5mm diam. I discussed some ideas with my talented friend Stu (loco7stove) and he agreed to make an adaptor so that we could fit the special silent caps to a No.96 type stove. Here are the photos provided by Stu (my workbench is not so tidy): As you can see these Silent caps have been brought back to life by Stu. Great work, I think you will agree. Take a bow Stu! Best Regards, Kerophile.
The beauty of the geometry on the cap is really shown in those photos George. Yes, well done to both of you. Ken in NC
Hi, if you scan through this thread you will see photos of this burner operating on one of the stoves, a Radius No.7, for which it was designed: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/8876 Best Regards, Kerophile.
Kerophile. I also bought two of these burner caps for future projects. If I ever find the right burner, that is. In any case, could you give the measurements of this adapter. Michael
I really enjoy seeing these unusual caps and their beautiful flame shots. Thanks for sharing but shouldn't this be in the "Frankie" section with the accompanying skull and crossbones modification warning? Not knocking your post at all, I'm just trying to figure out how things work around here.
Non standard parts on a No.96 stove. Stove Forum Not Frankies: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/garys-dampers-mini-vs-midi-cap.12591/ Regards, Kerophile.
Looks quite beautiful! How much there is room between top of the cap and bottom of the pot/kettle? Looks that there might not be too much extra space.
Just within last days I have been working with that same issue and got away without making new pot supports. Looks that Kenrick cap on 96 might have same symptom?
@kerophile You are right, Stu is the man to go too. My 96 is running perfectly with the lipstick Stu modified with a replaceable jet. A Big thanks Stu, there would be lots of stoves still on shelves without your good idea,s. Optimust.
Hi @Torbjørn Gjertsen Welcome to CCS. That is a very impressive first post, you are very skilled to have made such a complicated burner cap arrangement, and in TiG welded stainless steel! The flame pattern in beautiful and the burner seems very powerful. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Wow! Thank you! I've been thinking about perfecting it more by turning a bolt in the lathe to the similar shape and then using a hydraulic press to cold press the upper and lower parts. They are not similar btw. Would be easier if i found sheet metal with holes already in it. Then I could possibly make them quicker and even skip the welding just make them as they did back in the day. Could even list them on ebay.
Hi @Torbjørn Gjertsen . Here is another example of a Radius special silent burner fitted to a Radius No.7 stove. It shows the beautiful flame formations that are produced: Radius No.7 These original burner caps seem to have been produced by the two separate parts being “deep drawn” on a hydraulic press. The lower half seems to have had the multiple holes made before the final pressing stage. The two separate parts were than joined together by cold-rolling the edge of the top one over the other. I do not know what demand there would be for these very special parts but it must have been the 1930/40s since the last burner of this type was made. Unfortunately, I think it unlikely that you would get rich selling these caps. Best Regards, Kerophile.
