A Comet No.5, on the right above, which has been subject to an extensive rebuild the story of which can be found in this thread in the Fettling Forum. At first sight almost identical to its small collapsible little brother, the more famous No.6, the huge difference in the sheer size of the No.5 is more than clear in the photo above. The stove was saved from scrap but was in a really dreadful state: So as seen here now the only remaining original parts are the tank and burner. All of the rest, the 3 side panels, legs, and heat shield have all been fabricated to replace parts which were either missing or beyond repair. The fact that pure brass sheet has been used for the replica frame pieces almost certainly means that the whole assembly must now weight considerably more than the original which would have been made from fairly thin brass-plated steel sheet. Completely hidden from view one of the most challenging parts of the rebuild was refurbishing the NRV internals which had been damaged by past use of an incorrect size steel spring, the remains of which which were themselves largely rusted away. And finally, boiling up the first kettle in who knows how many years:
