I have a hard-as-rock pip in one of my caps and I'd love to know if anyone has a source for replacements. Fettlebox has been great for regular pips and gaskets, but this one is oddly shaped (with a long section for the spring as illustrated here: Optimus 199 Help) and I can't even just buy a 1/8" sheet and replicate it.
@kerophile i think your link sends me to a pip for normal Svea caps. I took a poor photo but here’s one of the kind I’m searching for: it’s possible it doesn’t matter if it’s missing the section that aligns the spring, but I figure it’s there because it needs to be.
A regular pip of correct size will work. That is the old style. A new pip may work better with a carrier. Duane
@paultee One of THESE will replace the all-in-one type, which were a cost-saving alternative to the traditional brass cup and separate ‘pip’.
@hikerduane @presscall Such great news to hear I have options Thank you both for quick replies and I'm glad this cap isn't destined to be marked "unsafe".
If you think UK is too far from, Also the same is listed on Ebay but I think the cost is too much. You can consider to take a Brass holder from another usual SRV cap from Optimus and use for your two-way cap. In addition, IMHO the spring tension is too much in some cases, for SRV part - inside of Pentabolt, not NRV part as your photo.
@Yun124 Thanks! I've already ordered from Fettlebox, and have in the past, so I don't mind the shipping time plus prices are very reasonable. During the pandemic it was just a couple of weeks travel to Canada. I like the idea of supporting the forum sponsor, too. I've just set aside the cap till I can get it refurbished, but now I understand why it was shaped differently (like most things: cost cutting ha!).
I agree with you! afaik the very recent SRV cap, the oem of current 123R stove with Hex hole cap, has the same type as this two-way valve's cone, without metal holder. Very poor concept, but I don't know why, maybe as your expectation - cost reduction...
