This month the category is military stoves. If the stove in question is also available on the civilian market there must be some markings etc that show that it is military issue.

Post your nomination as a reply to this post.

    The rules.
    • Stove must feature in the Stove Reference Gallery (SRG) with a link posted in the entry. So now's the time to get those stoves photographed & posted! If it's been listed for years already that is ok too.
    • Maximum of 2 pictures in the entry. The pictures must show the stove working & in it's entirety. More pictures can of course be shown in the linked SRG entry - as many as you want!
    • Stove must be presently owned by the member.
    • Previous winning entries are excluded.
    • One entry per member.
This nominations post will be open for the month of May. At the end of the month the post will be closed & the qualifying stoves placed in a blind poll for members to vote for. The poll will remain open for 1 week. Most votes is the winner.

The winner will get a SotM Winner notation on their posts & profile & a £10 voucher code from The Fettlebox

My entry, a British military No.6 self-pressurising white gasoline (naptha) stove.

The late Steve Williams (CCS ‘Shed-man’) wrote HERE of his experience with the No.6 stove on a military Arctic Expedition to Ellesmere Island in the far Northern Territories of Canada in 1980.

In less extreme climes the stove has proved reliable and efficient.

Rule check: Can a stove that's been previously entered (but did not win) be re-entered in this month's competition? Thinking about the M2A, but it's been entered before if I remember correctly.

    thanks,
    ben

Hi here is my British Army No.12 stove from 1996. This is a single burner squad stove, designed to burn diesel fuel.

The stove provides a powerful and controllable flame.

It can be entered if not a previous winner. I introduced that rule about winning stoves a while back but missed putting it in. Now corrected.

However - we could have months where it's new entries only so keep an eye out.

Seems likely my Enders was assigned to German military vehicle in its early days with its ID painted on case. Stove has relaxed civilian life now and does a fine job cooking for me. Gallery
BTW: biscuits and gravy in skillet

I would like to submit my US Army M2A for consideration. SRS link: US Army M2A Burner Unit

I actually own *two* of these beasts. I don't yet have any photos of the first one I bought, but when I bought it, it was in need of some parts. I got it pretty cheap, so that didn't bother me. While looking for parts to repair it, I came across this one. It also needed parts, so I again bought it, very inexpensively, and thought: "I can make two stoves out of one." While waiting for this second unit to come in, I found the parts I needed to fix BOTH. So both of the M2A's that I own are in full working order. :)

As I note in the SRG entry, this is a stove that I do use, but not a great deal as it is complex to setup and get running. However, I have used it, and in this photo, it's heating water in support of cooking up a batch of homebrew beer. :)

    Thanks much,
    ben

I was traveling away from home when this contest started so @presscall beat me to posting a British No.6. (If anyone has the top half of a No. canister, name your price). So I am forced to double down with an entry of a pair of Canadian military issue Coleman 500s. Canadian Military 500
    PXL_20220523_182821553.jpg PXL_20220523_174457730.jpg
Some military 500s are marked with the Canadian property mark, a broad arrow /|\ inside the letter C but this seems the exception rather than the rule. The only sure indication on military use is the color, which was not used on any commercial models and the windscreen. However, some commercial stoves came with windscreens. The stove on the left is dated C 42, the one on the right B 42.

If posting two stoves is deemed not in the spirit of the contest, let me know and I will repost a single stove.
