In the set of three pictures, there is clearly liquid fuel from the jet. You should not light the stove until after the preheat. Durning the preheat keep the vent open so no pressure develops in the tank.
In the second picture the flame looks like it is coming from the burner tubing and not the jet. It could be an issue with the burner tubing.

Whilst this is happening ,Look for vapour/flame coming from somewhere it shouldn't.
Yes, Carbon is a good heat insulator. A buildup of carbon prevents the transfer of heat to the fuel and can stop proper vaporisation of the fuel. Carbon is very hard and impervious to most cleaners. It can be removed by Mechanical abrasion with a stranded wire but it's hard to get into the very top Heating the burner to dull red and quenching in cool water (causes the carbon to shatter). Then tap the burner on a piece of timber and the carbon will wall out the bottom. Repeat until the carbon stopps coming out. Heating the burner until the carbon burns whilst passing a low volume of air through the burner. I have heard that boiling the burner in a caustic soda solution will remove the carbon, but I haven't tried it.
Well done @Firedevil - Ain’t this a great hobby :-) If you pre-heat with pure alcohol in the small cup under the burner-head, that will save you a lot of soot and smoke. As @ROBBO55 described it - let the air screw be open, until the alcohol is almost burned out - then close air screw and start pumping. PS: Your Hipolito looks great!
@Firedevil Congratulations. If you’ve used a lead washer under the burner, it would be much better to replace it with a fibre washer. Best regards Tony
