Hello, today I am presenting a magnificent stove, a very rare L. B. Ekinox with two burners. I had the chance to find and acquire it thanks to the great Ekinox lover and friend @LiXing The stove is complete with its wood box and coil burner pre heater (made in Sweden but it should be original to the stove). A different set up compared to this other example: French? Stove Ekinox but this exact model is pictured on an old advertisement visible on @Michel website here: https://weblampesapression.wixsite.com/lampes/ekinox-l-bouyssou I don’t hide that I struggled to have it to burn well. First of all I had to solder a crack on the tank bottom, caused by an impact on one of the two feet. Another leak to fix on side tank seam. Once released the crack stress by drilling an hole to avoid the crack to go all along the tank, I added a good quantity of solder to stop the leaks. These stoves are known for their delicate brass tanks, so I was expecting something like this. Then the two valves spindle, strangely of a slightly different length, required some needle adjustment to obtain an acceptable shut off when fully closed. The stove requires a long and repeated pre heat session, unfortunately without any alcohol cup available. So the best way is to use a torch or the included coil burner to pre heat enough to vaporize kero. Considering the construction quality and design, also if this stove is meant to burn also gasoline, I think is highly discouraged considering the not extremely accurate design of the parts and the solidity of the tank. So I used kerosene. The high heat produced is remarkable, unfortunately a piece of one of the pan ring broke for the heat, so a next fix. Well, here some photos: A short video of the stove burning: Enjoy, Nicola
@Haggis thanks! @Ian ok I will add more photos as soon as possible. Do you mean the back of the burners mixing chambers? Nicola
Good evening @Nicola Francesco Elia, You really do have a awesome collection of some rare and beautiful stoves, well done on achieving a brilliant collection
@geneislucky thanks! @sefaudi thanks Sefa! @mr optimus thanks! Some effort has been required Cheers, Nicola
I suppose with the middle position, one could place a candle below for a warmer. Or is it just a rest for the coil-burner? Depending of duration of burn time on the coil unit, one could even boil a pint of water in the middle, I would guess.
@SveaSizzler You are right, the central position can be used as warm pot rest when the burners are used for something else, or the coil burner can take that position and work as third burner (a guess suggested also by other members). Nicola
Hi Nicola this (only kerosene, never gasoline) Ekinox stove is the n° 3 from circa 1920 it have to be preheated with an asbestos fork normally, 2/3 minutes under the burner are able to preheat enought
@Michel Thanks for the tips. Yes I used and I would have used only Kerosene also if meant for gasoline. I don’t know why but I remembered an old advertisement that was saying “suitable for both petrole and essence”, but I could remember wrongly. So, kero only Cheers, Nicola
