Well @fisherman it seems that I came late to your idea! I think it works best with the Svea on my examples of stoves...I just wish they threaded it so I could have kept it in the original burner bell.

@Remus1956 , are they same thread that the Chinese 8r clones? Because if you add a small spacer, the clone will tie.

@JP2 unknown....I dont have a chinese clone of the 8R. I have a few of the Soviet PT1 clones of the 8R. I will have to check those....

Thanks Remus for posting this idea!
It look like the cap sits on the burner bell of the Svea. Would it be possible to wire it there, instead of sleeping it or finding a way to match threads!

Three loops of wire twisted in place to hold it is my bush mechanic attitude showing itself

@xgk281 I was thinking about wiring it, just want to find a wire that would take the heat! It just sits there now, but after expansion and cooling they get stuck together...and pop apart with a light tap on the table.
I prefer they stayed put...but yes....sits in burner bell for Svea 123r just fine!

    Thanks Remus,
Wiring is only to hold it in position and not have it fall off.
Doesn’t need to be tight. Sounds like it settles itself in fine once heated. Wiring sounds practical.
I have used stainless wire for this job, which has lasted a long time on my silent cap for my xgk2. Titanium wire might also be good for a high heat application, if you can find some.

Cap should fit poly well but tread of the G-43 are much too big for the optimus 8r etc.
    Very losses

An easy silent cap for the 8R and the 99 is the burner top from and Enders 9060/9061. Takes a good pre-heat due to the larger mass, but it works great.
(@Remus1956 thanks for sharing your testing  I’ve been tempted to buy one of these from Ali-E too)

Have you tried it with a strong neodymium magnet? Is it magnetic? If yes, how magnetic? I tested 304 stainless wich is slightly magnetic. Stainless 316 L(low carbon version) is not magnetic even tried with a 160kg force neodymium monolith magnet! I ask because I had the pleasent surprise to find 316 stainless in a garden solar lamp bought years ago and forgoten in garden... No rust whatsoever on it...
These chinese really use whatever they have/get in their products...
Also, do you think it would fit in a Shmel-2 stove? Mine is still good but if left in air after a good cleaning it will have some spots of rust...
    Understandingbly after 30 years or more... IMG_20231123_204845464.jpg IMG_20231123_204827668.jpg IMG_20231123_204709349.jpg

Hello @Gabriel Lorin Ok so to your first question
The cap in this discussion is not magnetic (base) but the shiny silver cap is magnetic

To answer your second question...This cap will not work with your Shmel...its too small.
HOWEVER I did find a brass cap set for about 20 euros or less that absolutely will work. I have 3 shmel stoves myself (Shmel 1 clone of phoebus, Shmel 2, and a Shmel 4)
Look to page 6 of this discussion and you should be able to find it.

Remus,my friend, I'm in Romania... Have no ideea how to pay, what or who will deliver that cap ,when might get to me and if I am around(I work as driver ,so I'm on move always...)
I'll use this Shmel-2 daily until it dies on me... I'll maybe upgrade to an Optimus Nova ,wich I can buy cash from here... I had in past my identity stolen, almost everything, hacked accounts, bad things happened to me... I always prefer to pay cash for things if possible...
I heard optimus nova can burn diesel fuel straight from the pump :-) kuchenka_turystyczna_optimus_nova_2_a9ac.jpg

@Remus1956 although if it is really brass ,AND it fits Shmel-2 ,it's very good price...
Don't know the actual temperature this cap gets to,but I do know the maximum temperature in a flame is just above the blue spot. Now from a chemistry/chemical corrosion point of view ,brass may be good enough!
I'm not expecting 310s stainless parts or Inconel at 20 dollars/euros+ shipping! I would be shameless by then...
    :-)
