Hello, Jacks back from an extended trip back to the Knoydart .
Managed to NOT break and toes this time.... HaHa!!

Took a couple of stoves with me including the 8r which i have to say performed brilliantly as expected
the only problem was keeping the wind off it when it was blowing fairly hard.
Used ro0cks, rucksack etc etc to make a windbreak BUT I'm wondering is there is a pukka windshiled for the 8r like there cis for the Optimus 111??
Any info would be much appreciated as always.
If there isnt and i were to make something out of aluminium similar to the 111 would it be OK?
IS there anything that shouldnt get overly hot like maybe the stuffing gland ??
    All suggestions gratefully received.

I am hesitant to post an EBay link , there is a seller from Japan that provides such a shield for 99 and 8r . You may be able to make something like it or purchase from EBay . I think this type shield would provide better priming , just don't know how effective in overall wind as far as sheltering the flame under the pot . Interesting idea . Packing gland etc should be ok as flame is above the screen . Look forward to see what you come up with . WR

A strip of brass, judiciously bent. The width is set so that the stove case will close with the windscreen in place. (A bit fiddly, but not bad.) This photo is of an Optimus 8, but the idea works equally well with an 8R.)

A cut and folded adult malted beverage can rides along in my user 8R for wind abatement.
