Hi everyone.Found this site whilst looking for advice on my paraffin stoves. Currently have a shinabro and monitor stoves. I`d like some advice on replacing the washers that fit between the burner head and the tank on my monitor stove. It seems to be a C11 stove and the asbestos washers are not up to much, so, are alternatives available and where from?
I've been converted to paraffin stove since I got hold of the little 1 pint shinabro last year. Why did these type of stoves fall out of fashion? they're great.

Hi Mate. Welcome on board. We are all here to support each other, and share all topics related with stoves.

As for heatproof washers, may be you should visit one of our members, Kerophile's advertisement about these washers:

You will be amazed, if you get some of his washers...

    Hi Tod, welcome to CCS.
You have a couple of true classic stoves there.

    1. It is great to get such a fine recommendation of my Heat Resistant washers from Sefa, since his own leather pump washers are World famous as the best you can buy! Here is a post on HR washers and fitting them:

    2. Be careful in dismantling your Shinabro burner, as unlike other classic stoves it uses a left-hand thread:

    https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/10322

These classic stoves went out of fashion with general users as they were undercut on price by liquid gas stoves, which required no skill to operate and were OK for boiling up water for a cup of tea/coffee, or re-hydrating rations.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Thanks for the rapid replies. A true encyclopaedia of info awaits me. I had read that the Shinabro has a left hand thread and it can be replaced in whole by a complete Primus burner head. Is that correct? Let's hope I'll never need to.
Ok then, time to purchase washers then.

Hi Tod, The Shinabro 340 and 680 stoves will accept the riser/burner assembly from an Optimus 00; but you must change both. Obviously a Shinabro burner cannot be connected to an Optimus riser, as the threads are opposite.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Great service from Kerophile. Ordered some heatproof washers on Wednesday morning and they arrived Thursday morning. Can`t knock the postal system in this case. 24 hours from the far north of the UK to the deep south.
    Excellent.

Speak as I find: Whenever I have bought from him I have had good service.
If you have a problem with an ebay purchase, it might be better to refer it to ebay and seek recompense through the buyer protection service, rather than posting defamatory comments about people.

I only dealt with him once, when I bought NRVs. All of them had various defects. Bad threads and bad heads mainly.
I did not contact for support.

So you must be the one with 615 feedback who didn't receive the number 5 burner washers for which you left negative feedback saying "did not turn up money was kindly refunded".
I don't know whether you have ever sold anything on ebay, somehow I doubt it. Now from personal experience, I can tell you that sometimes things go wrong as this isn't a perfect world. A while back I sold a service tool for a Volvo Penta boat engine. It was an original, not a copy. They have a retail of over £200. Mine was secondhand and had cost me next to nothing. I sold it for £35 to a man who ran a boat yard. Packed it and dispatched it and it was never seen again.
I actually phoned him to ask if it had turned up and we agreed to leave it another week or so, after which I refunded his money. We were both very disappointed
but there were no accusations, no negative feedback, and, as far as I know, I didn't get branded "a crook" on some boat persons forum or other. You cannot prevent the unexpected from happening - it's how you deal with it that counts.
..and being a human being you need to be considerate about how you react to things.
    Enough said.
