Greetings, All, Some years ago, I was blessed to have found a brand new, in the box, Optimus Ranger #10! I really wanted to fire it up, but decided to keep it mint, instead. Somewhat later, I was opining to a friend in Norway that I really wanted to fire up my #10, but would rather find another one, and thus have one to show and one to use! He got back to me, and offered me another brand new, in the box Optimus Ranger #10! How could I refuse?! As soon as it arrived, I fired up my original #10, and was more pleased than I can say! Using ONLY KEROSENE, it burns clean and very hot! It also simmers very well, indeed! Here are some photos of the "show" stove: Everything is really crammed in there, but it does fit! Are these instructions inside the lid in Swedish, or Norwegian? Here's a peek at the proprietary windscreen. It's different than on the 8R, or other such box stoves. And it "just" fits inside the case, between the burner and fuel tank. All setup, and ready to go! Here are the instructions, including the parts diagram. A little better view of he parts diagram. And, now, some of the "user" Ranger #10. Sorry for the lack of sharpness. My fault. But, you can see this little monster is a real powerhouse, for such a small stove! Some folks have complained that their Ranger #10 stove overheated, and blew the Safety Release Valve. I strongly believe that those who complained very well might have used the wrong fuel in their stove. In the times I have used it, it's never given me even a hint of over-heating! YES, the tank does get very hot. But, burning good, clean, K1 Water White kerosene does not over-heat the stove, PERIOD! This little guy is dependable, and easy to use. For it's size, I don't think it has any real competitors, IMHO. Thanks for checking it out, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc (Who is blessed to have two of these little Monsters! Pure Class in their design, and function!)
Doc, And you. It's not too clear from the diagram, how does the pump attachment fit onto the SRV? Is it some type of valve? Archie
Morning, Guys! Many thanks for the kind comments! @junior trangia master asked: " It's not too clear from the diagram, how does the pump attachment fit onto the SRV? Is it some type of valve?" Archie, if you take a close look at the fuel cap in the photos I posted, you will see that there is a round extension as part of the cap. The pump fits snugly onto that round extension. Works a treat! Such pumps will only work on fuel caps that have that round extension. So, if you have an 8R, for example, you would need to replace your fuel cap with one of the ones used on stoves like the 199, and Ranger #10. I hope that answers your question, but if not, give me a shout! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
@junior trangia master This thread by @presscall might help visually. Repro and original mini/midi-pumps and fuel caps
@junior trangia master there is an O ring inside the opening of the pump that forms the seal around the extension on the top of the filler cap that @Doc Mark mentioned above. regards John
FYI Graphite powdered lock lubricant works best for the referenced pumps. Not oil or grease, that attracts dust and grit.
Well done there Mark a great idea, having one kept mint and one for use. Being a duel fuel that can run on Kero and Diesel which makes it very handy and versatile as Diesel can be purchased at all fuel stations, it would all so be nice to see and compare it being run on diesel
@mr optimus wrote: "...it would all so be nice to see and compare it being run on diesel". Howdy, Brian, Many thanks for your always kind comments, my friend! Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of running stoves on diesel. I've tried it in a variety of stoves over the years, and found it was far more trouble than it was worth, IMHO. In my experience, it gums up the stoves, it stinks, and is a real PITA to clean up. Others may have different experiences, but I'll stick with what works best for me, K1 Water White kerosene. It burns nice and hot, and is clean burning, too. I have yet to find a stove, rated to burn diesel, that didn't get me fits. So, for me, I would only burn diesel in this wonderful stove, if there was no other fuel available. Just my 'tuppence, and others may well feel differently. Great to hear from you, and as always, God Bless you and yours! Every Good Wish, Doc (Mark)
Very true and understandable Mark, being as diesel is a motor fuel, it does contain to many additives that are good for internal combustion in engines but not in stoves. I my self have several Coleman apparatus that are dual fuel( Coleman fuel and unleaded petrol/gasoline) and only use Coleman fuel for that exact reason, i would only use the other as a last resort
