My son recently purchased a Trangia 27 at what seemed a very good price on the Amazon Australia site. After about 9 days and advice it was on its way from the UK, he got a message saying something had happened and he would be getting a full refund. AI suggests there have been issues with Trangia burners being under some kind of export mail safety restriction. Not the safety of the actual burner which is obviously fine. The advice my son received gave little further infomation. A check of Amazon Australia shows many variations of the 27 series still available for sale and pretty much all of them are shown as coming from the UK. The price of the unit UL 27-1 was about half to two thirds of what the fancier models sell for and seemed a good deal. Wondering if anyone else has any similar experience. I have only ever had trouble with a certain global shipping of a gas iron and a Tilley Underground Railway lantern. I was waiting for his Trangia 27 to arrive as I wanted to see if his 1 litre pots fitted or mixed well with my older 750 ml pots. I believe they fit but not sure if they nest equally well with the older ones. Maybe someone can answer this too as my son is now waiting on the refund before he tries again.
Hi. I’m having a similar problem here with Amazon in the UK. Anything with the word “stove” in the description can only be delivered to certain locations. I’m guessing that the algorithm that they use classes all “stoves” as hazardous materials, even if they don’t come with or are shipped with any form of flammable fuel. Despite numerous messages to their “bot” they haven’t responded
Hello Sedgman, Just wondering if your son was successful in re-ordering the 27. I've also ordered a Trangia hard anodised 27 cook set via Amazon Aust that is coming from the UK. However, there hasn't been any update on the shipping status since the same day it was ordered on 4th Sept - Amazon tracking says it departed an Amazon facility in Kent UK on 4th Sep - but nothing since. Amazon says it is due to arrive Tue 15th - 3 days from today's date, but I doubt this, with no movement showing since the day it was ordered - now 8 days ago from today. I think it may be headed for the same outcome as your son's original order. Cheers, Paul
@Ozymandias Will be very interesting to see what happens; sounds very similar. Please let us know the outcome. My son avoided the issue by buying through Amazon from Japan and getting the model 37-5 which is the same as the 27-5 except that the two parts of the windshield are also ‘black’; apparently hard anodized. Cost a bit more but delivery prompt and in good order.
Sedgman, As I was wanting the T 27 UL HA in time for a family trip in 7 days from now, I contacted Amazon help via an online conversation (with a real person). They could not see any different progress either, but could not initiate a formal refund until the "due delivery date" was reached in 3 days. However, they suggested I send an email to the delivery/carrier company saying that I "Refuse Delivery" of the particular item. Amazon provided the tracking number and shipment ID reference. Amazon stated that this would / should return the package - if indeed there is even a package in the system (doubtful) - and that a refund should ensue within 3-5 days. Amazon also stated that if the package did arrive in the next 3 days then I can return it via Amazon - also for a full refund. In the meantime, I've ordered the same Trangia 27-7 UL HA from a local retailer (Snowys Outdoors) who have one in stock for a click and collect - but at a AUD $27 higher cost. Hopefully I can drive and pick it up in 24-48 hrs - the store is about 21km away from my home, but really the only option to get it in time as Aust Post are pretty slow. Paul
