Beeeuuuuttiiifullll!!! :D A question that crossed my mind as I thought of painting my 8r is; how do you duplicate the original textured feel and appearance of the Optimus blue scheme??? Anyone can slap on some glossy paint, but you did a fine factory job on that paint job, and I am interested in how you managed that?? and where to find "Optimus Blue" paint?? Is the steel case textured or is it a special paint?? :? :D

I used spray gun with 1 mm jet, and sprayed it with "Hammerite" textured enamel
light green (not blue). Looks like the original colour and textured effect.

But first I burnt all the old painting away.

    S&S,
on the hammerite website, I find a 'mid-green' and also a 'light blue'. the blue looks good to me. do you have the paint Number off the can of paint?
    Thanks

No number - but "mid-green" = light green.

Thanks :D I predict great things on the horizon, for the 8r... at least the inside and bottom where the paint is mangled.

So impressed with yours that I bought some paint today, but to save me experimenting too much, could you tell us the dilution (thinner to paint ) ratio & a reasonable air pressure,
    Cheers.

    Pressure: 42 psi - 3 kg
Thinner : Xylol (Xylen) - or Hammerite thinner/brush cleaner
Ratio : Must be as Olive Oil - spray 3 or 4 layers after each other - and NOT too heavy layer each time !!!!!!

Well, having been inspired by Salar and Stove & by his excellent painting abilities, I have now got round to giving a' triple one' a needed respray. Not quite as tidy as S&S's
    very fine paintwork, but - - - - - - - - - - - -

    BEFORE - - -
    Gkids001.jpg

    AFTER - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - AND DOIN' WHAT IT SHOULD
    Gkids009.jpg Gkids012.jpg

The pic of it working is closest to true colour - - Hammerite dark green.
As you can see, this is an embossed lid model, does anyone have any idea what time period it is from? It also came with a 96 type filler cap, could this be correct.
    Cheers.

I don't think it is the original thing but its a mod. I use (having been put onto it by Paul). It makes reelieving the tank pressure so much easier. You lose the safety v/v but when did you last hear of a 111 safety lifting?

    Smart paint job, BTW. :D
