111 spindle

I am servicing my 111 and cant remove the spindle, I am worried about applying too much force. I have unscrewed it after removing the jet and Needle, but it only comes out so far that the graphite packing is exposed, then Ive tried pulling but it wont budge, is it just a case of more force?

Squirt something like wd40 in there both ends and pull not to hard just keep working it easy

I had a similar problem removing the spindle on a 123 - it came out voluntarily up to a point, and then stopped. I eventually got it out by continuing to rotate the spindle (an unscrewing motion) while pulling outward using a firm, even force. After a bit it came free, covered in black, almost tar-like gunk.

 

I have just got Primus 523 from 1937 (AB), and had to use my Dremel to destroy the
spindle packing's on both burner to get the spindle out.

I could get the spindle out until the packing's got to the inner edge of the nut threads.
The packing's was hard as stone, but with great care and a small milling cutter it was done without any damage to the burner and spindle.

Winegar bath is now waiting for the burner's.

 

Is that a vinegar Bath? does this clean the burner good, please let me know.

Yes - in Vinegar - first step try with 30 minutes - give it a try with a toothbrush - OK?
If OK - rince it afterwards in water with a litte soap (as for dishwashing).

Not OK - vinegar again and perhaps longer time - make some check.

Of course - burner must be totally apart.

The vinegar worked a treat on my stuff box, but I put the 5 toothed jet needle in, and on checking after about 15 minutes, the needle had completely dissolved! not to worry though I've ordered a new one

I am so sorry - I forgot to tell you - only the brass.

The acid in the vinegar is corrosive.
