Mrs. M. & I went to Nick's for supper tonight, and very nice it was too. Here Nick finishes off the spag sauce on his 123 whilst my 1pint espresso does the business on mine (a different one to this morning)
Well, I have to confess to doing my 123 outing a little early (Thursday) It was a sunny day and as the weather can be variable this time of year, especially on land that sticks this far out to sea, we tend to go when opportunities arise. Still feeling impressed with Keith's excellent Bodmin Moor pics, we decided to go to St, Davids Head, an area that has some of the qualities, if not the acreage of B M. It has a long & varied history with cyst graves, a burial chamber, hut circles and an iron age fortified headland, there are also some Viking field systems. On one occasion, a storm stripped the sand away from a nearby beach (Whitesands) and ancient tree stumps were revealed, my brother in law found two onyx sculls an a flint spear head too. I quite like these army No 12 fry pans, nothing too grand cooking here, just bacon 'n' egg butties. 123 on tea duties & a R on the bacon. You can see a strange little place called Ireland from the hill in the back ground. A burial chamber - - And just to keep you going Rik - 'till your mobility returns - -
Nice looking laptop, Nick Love the chunky knit pullover, but you will need more than that at Sykeside!! Just for you Nick, she's waiting for you: |imgRemoved|
Wow! Its hard to follow photos like these. I have no time to get into the field this weekend, but there is always time for a cup of tea. (Ignore the un-raked leaves) I know I'm preaching to the choir, but these stoves have real souls. They remind me of steam engines, they almost breathe! As a kid I didn't have the money for a Svea and purchased a Peak1. I'm 25 years late, but finally have my 123! Cheers, Manny
It was an unusually beautiful day here for Remeberance Day. Normally a cold wet, boardering on snow type dreary day. Sun was out, light breeze and mild temperatures. All that was needed was a light jacket if you kept moving. Early in the day I took my son (7 yrs old) to the local Cenotaph to observe the Remeberance Day Services. It was a long time for a 7 yr old to stand and be quiet and he did quite well until the end. It was a touching experience. My heart goes out to all those who have served and are serving. After lunch came the fun business of camp stoves! I usedmy coffee perk without its inards. Had to set up on the deck handrail as all the deck furniture has been stowed away for winter. Getting the 123 set up for a tea... Tea is on! My son also enjoyed a hot chocolate from the same boil up. The 123 did a fantastic job considering the breeze and the large exposed surface area of the pot. Well done everyone. That was fun! CB
Well, here I am in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Out for a walk exploring my new digs; nice day, a bit overcast, temperature 37F -- a bit cooler than LA. A little flare when I open the valve. . . . . . and then she quickly settles down to that nice Svea roar. Tea is just minutes away. This is on the Sac and Fox Scenic Trail, which winds along the eastern edge of Cedar Rapids, following Indian Creek. I anticipate some good XC skiing here in a month or so. ....Arch Thanks to Pat Berry for the photos.
Here's one of my 123's. This is the 123R in an Optimus made windshield, that also came with a pan or two depending on it's age plus a lid/frypan & pan-grip. The outfit was called the Optimus 88 & was more compact than the Sigg unit - ideal for one person. I'd have liked to have got my old 1950's Svea 123 out like in Pjotr's picture but it's still packed. With a pan-ring thrown on to take the perk. Cherry red for you know who! |imgRemoved| In it's usual set-up:

Well, as hoped, the weather behaved itself today, Sunday 12th, so got the wee folk ready and hit the trail. Only a short hike through a local wood, and we came upon this little glade. Get the stove quickly set up .. ... and primed Brought a Trangia 27 along just to act as a hot plate on this occasion, you can see it to the right, here Sausies in an Optimus 91 pan and the wee folk have a play as the sausies cook away Eggs were next, whilst the Trangia kept the sausies warm Grub Up !! This has been a most wonderful experience, Thanks everyone, for entering into the spirit of the occasion. Enjoy the Flame ... and the Cherry Red Spudz
Hello, Spudz, Outstanding, adventure, Lad!! Great stove photos, and also very cool to see your Wee Ones get out and enjoy some outdoors stove fun with you! Thanks for starting all this, and for adding to the wonderful pics that have been submitted so far. I still have plans to join in, but it will all depend on the weather, and the work. Spudz, You saved the best for last ehh! I just set the photo of your wee uns doing a jig as the background on my work computer. Totally charmed me on a spring morning in Auckland. Thank you. And my workmates will now be happy, knowing I'm not the only stove nutter in the world! Cheers, Tom
