In my early days of messing around with stoves i was repairing an Optimus 99. i purchased a servie kit for it from Basecamp... fitted it okay, but didn't get to sort out the relationship between the cleaning needle and spindle. Now knowing this "5 click " system (this is how i came to find CCS) i wanted to get to grips with this idea and fully understand what is what within the burner itself. Here are a series of pictures Here is a thread where the 5 clicks are mentioned in depth .... https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/3082
Crikey Andrew, you're a dab hand with the old junior hacksaw. Two stoves for the price of one? Fascinating to see those burner details. I'm still reeling from that one you did on a Svea external NRV set-up. Brilliant! I fear though you may become known as the Gunther von Hagens of stovedom ... Doctor Autopsy I'll politely decline any requests for donor stoves, Andrew, before you ask ... All the best, John
One picture is worth a thousand words; you've just spoken volumes! Thanks so much for the photos and the effort you put into it!
nice all the same it explains why you get the ridge in worn spindles looking at how they seat inside the burner. i never even thought about it before but the pics show it perfectly
Brilliant work Andrew, Where is the cleaning needle? Yes what is the tube lined with? Steel? But why Jeff
Here is a picture showing the cleaning needle The liner is made from steel. Interesting to see pitting, Cavitation damage maybe ? Its also interesting to see deformation around the spindle seat. My guess is a heavy hand when closing the regulator key.
shouldn't the washer be the other side of the graphite packing yes i know i'm a pedantic ahole when your over next you get to give me a slap as i deserve it nice work mate it must of taken hours to cut that out and getting looking so good atb Bill
Hi Bill Only just seen your reply... as a series of "educational" pictures it should be correct. I had filed the packing under B.I.N. and was pleased to have found it, slapped it together and set up the picture. Anyone looking at these pictures that are not familiar with the componants and their arrangement: To the right of the graphite packing is a brass spacer/washer. This should be fitted BEFORE the graphite packing and not after.
hi Jeff if the mods could sort the pics out so that they are grouped together then i think it would be a brilliant topic to have as a sticky somewhere in the fettling forum it's probably one of the most educational topics i have seen, a few pics and it's obvious where things go and there relationship to other parts in the stove it certainly explained to me why you get the groove in a worn spindle, i had wondered about it but not enough to cut a burner apart to find out
well i did say i was a pedantic ahole but it proves i was studying your pictures and i was paying attention and i have been back several times to look again as it's a good post and set of pics now could you cut up a primus 71 burner please so i can take a peek inside atb Bill
Hello gentlemen, I think it can be used to help members and new members figure out the 4/5 click cleaning needle setting. So it should stay in the fettling forum to help new members but be a sticky like you said Bill. Best Regards, Jeff
