OK thread revival time! I have been super busy of late. Work, and building a new house. The deal on the flea market stove fell through (the owner believes an employee sold the stove the day BEFORE I called him as he could NOT locate the stove! ) So... I emailed Mike at Base Camp and told him what all I needed. He responded back that he had it all in stock! I received a period correct pump complete with a new pump leather, a reserve cap, a set of three prickers, a spare NRV spring and cap with pip (I rebuilt my NRV with a pip received from Doc Mark), a new NRV lead washer, and best of all a Primus silent burner cap! All excited, I installed the new pump leather on the pump and oiled it up. I installed the washer on the NRV housing, installed the new spring, cap and Doc Mark's pip then installed the assembly in the fount along with the "new" pump. I tested that it pumped and the NRV functioned (it did). Installed the reserve cap and pumped 5 strokes to pressurize the tank, then did a dunk test to test for leaks (none!) I replaced the reserve cap with the vaporizer tube and tulip, installed the silent burner and finally I filled the fount 3/4 full of paraffin. I took it out side for the first flame test... Well now before you complain "Where are the pics?" I discovered at that point that my Canon A640 had just died! So at this time no pics. Also a very disappointing test... I followed this lighting procedure: Filled the spirit cup with spirits, lit that and let it burn down, closed the tank vent and gave one good pump. It lit instantly but with HIGH yellow sooty flames. Figuring this was normal, I let it burn for a full minute like this, then gave it two more good pumps. All I got was bigger yellow flames. As a test to see if I was getting good vapor from the "jet" I pulled the silent burner cap off while it was lit, and saw a good solid stream of white paraffin vapor (the stream was slightly off center sort of like the jet hole was at an angle). I tried this several times but could never get it too do anything but flame up with yellow flames. It's like it is getting way too much fuel. So what could it be? Could the jet hole be too big? The prickers they sent are a pretty loose fit in the jet hole. It is a 97 year old stove, maybe it's worn out? Another variable: The paraffin I used was actually a bottle of Coleman Kerosene I bought at Wal-Mart (I know it's twice as expensive as a GALLON of normal kerosene but I was right there getting a gallon of Coleman fuel anyway) could that be an issue? Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Update! Forgot I took a pic with my cell phone!
If your prick(er) fits loose in the orfice then the orfice is too big. Get a new orfice. Replace the nipple and try again. lance
Lance I may have to get another vaporizer tube... Read on! Well I tried to shrink the jet hole by using a procedure I found here that involved using a punch to slowly deform the metal surrounding the jet closing it up. That did not go quite as well as expected... So I next tried another trick I read about that uses a generator tip from a Coleman lantern. I cut off the tip of the generator that had the threaded part, drilled out the top of the vaporizer tube to just fit the generator tube then soldered it into the tip. Another pre-heat and it lit! I had a nice blue flame out of the burner cap! Then.... I heard a sudden release of pressure, followed by a huge flare up, then it just went out! What had happened? I used electronics solder to secure the generator tube into the top of the vaporizer... Yeah, yeah I know... What happened was the solder melted, and the generator tube fell down releasing the tank pressure causing the flare up. So now I'll have to get some silver solder and braze it on. I sent my camera off for repair so soon as it gets back I'll post some pics of what I did.
I'm afraid I am too late with this idea. It should have been possible to drill a smaller hole at the tip of the vaporizer, and thread it to fit the coleman jet. Too late now, though. Yonadav
Hi Coolerman I think less haste & more speed is needed in this case . Permanently sealing a jet in this way just leads to the same problem you had in the first place (what happens if you have jet probs again), maybe a new jet from another member stovie would have been the way to go. None of us would see you struggle alone with this. Where you have used lead solder to try to repair the vap tube jet you have contaminated it & now it will be very difficult to make a joint with silver solder. It may pay you to ask one of the member's here if they can make an internal & externaly threaded insert that can be used to repair the damage to the jet holder & put a standard size jet back in place. Stu, you were correct, it was very hard to silver solder that tube back in place, but I managed to do it (very ugly job)... However I have the same issue I had before, too much fuel and flare ups with nothing but yellow flame. The jet I'm using is from a Coleman 200A lantern and is obviously too large ( I think the jet size is .006). So I need to get a smaller jet or another vaporizer tube. If anyone here has a vaporizer tube for a 1914 Primus 100 they would like to sell reasonably let me know...

Hey Stu, if I send it to you I'll never learn how to fix it myself! I posted on a Coleman site and may have a lead on a 252 generator tip that should have a .0045 tip size. Otherwise my next trick will be to buy a drill bit the size I need, silver solder a piece of solid brass into the hole I drilled then re-drill it to the correct size...

Hi Coolerman. the original aperture diameter for a No.100 stove would have been around 0.23mm, or 0.009in. The Coleman tip you mention will be far too small IMO. Regards, Kerophile.
Hmmm... Now I'm confused . (Remember this is my first kero stove) If the original tip was .009, and yellow flames are a sign of over fueling, then why do I have yellow flames with a .006 tip? What are the symptoms of under fueling on this style stove? As we say here in the states: School me!
