Here Non-rising NRV tool, source yet? @hikerduane made 'an official complaint' that there is no non-rising NRV tool available. Long time I have also wanted to make & have one. Primus & Optimus have made them for #1/#5 pumps at least and they are one option (if someone finds them ) I made one for Optimus 111 but it fits onto Optimus 00 also (at least to later models). Tool is simple and easy to make. Just rod of steel(I used 1/2" socket set extension bar) and piece on brass hex bar is needed. Slot for NRV is made like here https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/stovies-workshops-fettling-benches.17229/page-7#post-455796 To the other end of rod hex end is made with same 'brute force' method: Nut to hold rod inside pump tube is made from brass hex bar by turning. Rod is also turned into right dimensions. Rod has tight fit into pump tude (=no wobble). Hole in nut is reamed to have a precise fit into rod (=makes bearing surface). AB NRV-00/111 installed into 111T: Wrench can be used to keep nut and stove on it's place and to prevent torque transmission to pump's soldered tank joint during the NRV removal. Rod can be turned socket set's t-bar to get enough force for NRV removal. (Pictured with 1/4" socket set parts. 3/8" socket set would be sufficient for tight NRVs): It was fun to make it and learn to use tool grinder, reamer, measurement tools and how challenging it is to make precise dimensions. My learning by 'trial and error way' is maybe not the best one but not so many other options after reading the things how they should be dome.
Nothing wrong with hacksaw and file, Duane... But I’m getting sucked in by these bench top lathes for “not so big” tooling. I didn’t take the big workshop lathe I was offered - it required too much re-fitting and needed a football team to move it. Nice work, @Afterburner. Cheers Tony
Thanks Gentleman! @hikerduane File and hacksaw are always needed in metal working. End rounding to the nut is made just with file. Setting right cutting tool and it's use would have taken several minutes. With file work was done in a minute. @Tony Press Bigger size bench top lathe(f.ex. Myford ML7, Emco Compact 8, etc.) would be quite perfect for stove size projects and with some effort for a bit bigger work pieces also. My Soviet made medium size bench/table top lathe (text is automatically translated...) would have been just enough for this work, but work was more convenient to make with hobbyist size floor standing lathe.
