Another Primus 71 arrived this week and I'm well pleased with it. It's the smaller model 71 and it appears to have had little use; a lot of the lacquer is still present and the case paintwork is in good condition, especially around the panrests where there is litle charring. Unfortunately the key is missing and has been replaced with what appears to be a clock key. On the up-side, however, it came with the little funnel and a Primus No.4200 silent cap, so I'm not too unhappy about the key. After replacing the original cork capseal with a nice new nitrile one, I filled it with A4T and fired it up. It works fine in both roarer & silent modes.
Yup. There is one that holds about 0,18 liters of fuel and another that holds about 0,20-0,30 liters. I havent the exact numbers, but its about there. The larger (i also guess that it is a later model, since my 1937 Primus -71 is the smaller variant) is about 1cm higher, and the tin is also about 1cm higher. By the way, neat arrangement with the silent burner.. Something for "stealth-joe"?? 8) Regards Uffe
hmm.. I couldn´t resist.... Whats wrong with a key from a clock? That is to help You see when it´s time for coffee !!! Hi!! Uffe
Hey, Guys, Here's one of my old Primus 71's, happily, and very hotly burning away, wearing one of Bernie Dawg's new silent burner caps at our CA Stove Gathering! It worked perfectly, and prompted Mac (Arch) and myself to utter phrases like, "Dang, that's amazing", "works wonderfully", and "I'm amazed by this little thing"!! We also tried the same silent cap on a Radius 20 (I think that's the #), and an Optimus 8R. Worked very well on all three stoves, and we have photo evidence to support that statement! 8) One thing we both thought, was that the stoves seemed to burn hotter with Dawg's cap on them. We were both VERY pleased with the performance of Gary's silent cap, and when we popped a Sigg pot onto one of those stoves, it seemed to boil up the water in super fast time using that neat little silent cap!! I'd recommend ALL Stovies to get order one, post haste! You will NOT be sorry that you did, Friends!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Morning, Ron, Thanks, very much! Yeah, we thought it was fairly beautiful, too. Both Mac and I are very impressed with Dawg's handiwork, and thought it a fine addition to any number of small stoves that we all know and love. Wish you could have made it to the Gathering, Ron. You would have had a fine time, as did we all. Please consider attending our next Gathering, which may be taking place in December, or maybe January. We've picked a spot, and when schedules can be lined up to make it happen, we'll announce that information and the dates. What's more fun than a barrel of monkeys? Why a gaggle of Stovies and their families, that's what!!! Talk to you later, my Friend, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Thanks for the plug, Doc! I'm glad that you folks had a good time at the CA Stove Gathering. I am really sorry that I couldn't make it. Hopefully I can attend next year. One point you made about the mini-caps. *I* think they burn hotter, too. But, I haven't mentioned it in the event it's a case of "proud parent syndrome". My feeling is that the mini-caps do a more thorough mix of fuel and air and are thus more efficient burners of the fuel. That's a very subjective analysis, but I'm intrigued that your impressions are similar to my own. Thanks again, Doc, and enjoy that cap! Best wishes, Gary
Doc, am sure it will be fun and hopefully my kids will also come albeit they are more of the indoor type (with all the convenience). Hope to hear more about the gathering on your posts. RON
Thanks Ian! They are being posted today and tomorrow in fact! And, I just can't resist 'cause I really like the photo as well as the subject. (It's my current desktop image.) Cheers, Gary
And one of them is MINE! Bwahaahaa Assuming the Postie doesn't lose it! Way to go, Gary!!! Err, mine's the good looking one in the middle, isn't it ????
Hey Steve, your going to fire it up anyway so like the good looking one will be all sooted up eventually. Ha ha ha ha ha. Such a lovely sight to look at those caps. All made with the labor of love I should say. Ron
