Attempting my first sil brazing repair Optimus 111 silent burner

Clean is clean. Contamination inhibits bond.
Some instructions have brass cleaned by citric acid soak.

 

Ok @snwcmpr I got that covered then. I got a evaporust type citric acid cleaner I use. I'll start it soaking now

 

Good luck, look forward to seeing how it turns out. Years ago took a 96 to local jeweler for quick fix.

 

Not sure what you have. Citric acid is easily available. Pure, no contamination.

@snwcmpr after 15 minutes cold...old toothbrush and dish soap to clean off

 

As @snwcmpr advises, pure citric acid is a great cleaner as preparation for silbrazing, as any contamination will weaken the repair.

 

@Pharael @snwcmpr seems like overkill but I got it going. Yep... You were right... Just a little more but getting it out before it turns pink

What you ought to do is load the dishwasher with a few stoves just as the wife walks into the kitchen.I did it to mine as a joke…she didn’t realise…she is half-Spanish and let’s just say the air was rich in Spanish I have never heard before…lol

 

Ok all,
I have the package with my supplies coming today.
Plan of attack:
Snip some rings of the silver and wrap them around the cracked parts (2 cracks) Saturate the area with flux
Mount this between some bricks on the workbench. Start propane torch to keeping it warm. Use second maap gas torch in hand...heat...wait until melts like I have seen on videos.
Allow to air cool, inspect, light up

Unless you all got another idea. I dont mind touching the stick to the flux, but saw some videos on youtube where the person made rings on this type of stove burner.

Did you practice on scrap brass?

 

Yes, definitely practice first…this will then help with confidence, consistency and a neat and successful repair. You need to get the area in a dull red heat, prior to you then using your mapp.

I got a small project I am planning on as practice, combining a wrench and a 3mm clock winder to make a wrench for a Juwel 34. If I can do that...I will try the burner. @snwcmpr tons on the bench from making heat shields. I got a piece I can close up and see how it works. Its thin though....

Well correct that. Once I try that I will probably try the burner anyway as the burner is a spare and if I "F" it up I have a laugh at myself and then toss it so no one ever sees it. Or toss it in the ocean...one or the other.
