Hi All, I recently acquired this Burmos, looking at the stove reference gallery I think it is a Burmos 21, later model, no engraving and has a Bakelite reserve cap. A good sized flamethrower, after surgery. Well it leaked, so I got the NRV out and replaced the pip. And it leaked. Got the NRV out again and replaced the washer. And it leaked. Huh? Looking down the pump tube with a bit of pressure up and some water in it, there was a leak at the bottom, on the side. Out comes the pump tube. Well it had two cracks from the end of the tube running up about 10mm. About now I should have taken more photo's I slotted into the cracks with a Dremel, soldered and sanded back. That seemed to do the trick. It's the first time I've seen cracking like this. Has anyone seen this before? How did your repair go? Cheers Colin
I have had this on a burmos 21, I did not know what the problem was until I read about another burmos 21 (I think it was a b21) with the same problem on this site. So it may be a burmos 21 thing? I did not fix my tube, I replaced it with a spare. Nice looking fettle! Your pump tube looks like it has never been removed. Dan
I too had a Burmos with a cracked tube but I replaced the tube with another. It sounds as if the problem may have been quiet common with this make or a particular batch. I did the same as you Colin before I finally found the problem. John
Another sufferer! Or rather another Burmos 21 with a similar problem - four/five cracks around the NRV end and the end is "coned" outwards
Hmm, I just bought a Burmos 21 on Trademe (NZ equivalent to EBay, for those not in NZ). It had seals on the filler cap and reserve cap that were rock hard, and leaked . I replaced these and the pump cup, and started it up. It went ok, but I think it could go way better (like the pic above shows) . Reasoning that the pump valve seal may be leaking, or the pip, I plan to replace the pump valve. The reports of splits in the pump tube worry me, coz I don't quite have the skills to replace or repair the pump tube. Anyway, this is all good stuff, and helpful. Maybe there should be a NZ group of stoveheads formed? Cheers Simon Foxxx
