Its Terrible that they are several hundred dollars even used here in the US. I'll probably have better luck going to Ebay.it or .com.au and just suck up the shipping cost. Maybe i'll sell one of may arms or legs and buy the Optimus Halmia, then sell another arm or leg and buy an Atomic..I would have to balance it out though so i'm not too heavy on one side.. One left arm and a right leg probably..

I got one of these one day for 3.50 USD. A Swiss Zappia Paradiso espresso maker.

I showed it to my local roaster and he wanted it, so I traded a coffee plant for it.
    I had it working.

I have an Ibrik, I use it once in a while.

My travel kit is a GSI Java Drip, a Zassenhaus hand grinder, and an MSR Reactor 1.7 L. I can have coffee brewed and back on the road in 10 minutes. Good coffee, too.

I just got the Hario Skerton, so I am going to try it this next trip. Stepped adjustment, so difficult to fine tune (pun intended).

I really like sitting on Sunday mornings and percolating in a glass percolator on a vintage Swedish Punker alcohol stove. Sitting with Nikki and talking while the color changes.

There's now a stainless steel version of the Atomic , with an electric heater - saw them in Launceston Tasmania - Price, somewhere over AU$600. I didn't buy one.

    snwcmpr,

I take the Aeropress with the stainless S type filter, a Hario mini, and the Hiker+. I'll probably use the Evernew Stove from now on. The Hiker+ is good for basecamp type exploring or with larger groups. The Evernew will be good for solo hiking.

I want a Ibrik just so I can make Turkish coffee on occasion. I doubt it'll get used much.

I love using the Vesuviana on weekends. You gotta sit around while it does it's thing. Once I put it one the stove I have enough time to get the glasses out and prepare everything for two nicely strong cups of moka. Its more of an event than anything. Most all guests to my house get a cup made in the vesuviana.

I think all coffee makers that don't have to be plugged in a are cool. Atomic, Brevetto Torino, Bellman, etc etc.. I also like the FTM Unipress or a Paluxette.

If I had a collection of coffee makers and stoves I wouldn't need any other hobbies..

    Normo,

A Stainless Steel version is kinda weird it doesn't have that aluminum appeal. Maybe its just me buy I like the aluminum stovetop coffee stuff.

Not really, it's just that we like our coffee. Have a good trawl through the site and you will find several arguments discussions on the merits of different coffee makers and if there is ever a place for instant in the camper's repertoire. Once you have a good stove or six, coffee, it seems, is one of the luxuries that needn't be denied when we take our hobby out into the field.

Not everything good enough for the masses is fun though. You should know that since you have a Borde Bomb in your profile picture. ha.. Its just one of those things I guess. I just like it for its form, not so much function.

    Jeopardy,

I like taking a coffee maker with me even if i'm by myself. It just makes the day better. When you take a coffee grinder in your backpack theres no turning back from being a coffee addict.

As you have already seen youve come to the right place.
Now back to the Svea 123 You do know there are 3 basic types with variations within each type. You could get 20 all different to each other.
Ive only got one which is the first stove I bought and still have. Bought it in 81 or 82 brand new. Have replaced the filler cap gasket twice but still goes well.

    Kerry,

I love Tea, but it doesn't give me enough ooomph when me eyes are half open. I need high octane fuel to burn rubber I guess.

    geeves,

I have only underood two different types of the 123. What are all the types?

Since the topic has wandered away from stove operations into coffee...

Until July 20, 2014, you can get 30% off ibriks (aka brikis, cezves) and other store items at Natashas. Use the code: Glacier in she shopping cart code window, then press the apply button to apply the discount while checking out.

    Natahas Link

Their brass ibriks are heavier and better made than many in my ibrik collection. I recommend them. Turkish happens here at the Dawg Ranch almost daily.

Hi, Ibrik (aka Finjan, Cezve) addiction is almost as severe as Stove Pox. Discuss.

I thought I would dig out some of my pots and take a few photos of the first dozen:

One is never enough, I find.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

I had to light up the Optimus 111 this morning because we were having a new kitchen stove installed and I wanted my coffee.

So here is the Atomic in action on the Optimus 111 in very windy conditions:

I know what its blowing like here in Launceston .
