I Do have a Globetrotter GT Stove and Lantern and plenty of those little Gaz cartridges to blow a few. I was leaning to this one and maybe my bigger Campingaz piercable stove and lanterns. I really used to like taking the GT backpacking since it was fairly light, but I also always took my 8R because it was my first stove. I will of course also bring several of my Coleman fueled stoves and lanterns. Not sure if I want to bring my kerosene lantern and heater, really a house heater but mighty handy on cold nights. Jim Henderson
Well NUTS again. I forgot that, that weekend is when we ship everyone off to Grandpa's in Texas, so 90%+ sure I can't go to this one. My wife told me so, dang! Maybe next year, Jim Henderson
Hey, Jim, Sorry you can't make it, but your situation is completely unavoidable, and also completely understandable! Family must always come before stoves, or at least, most of the time!! 8) Maybe we can do another Gathering later this year, or next, closer to home. We have another CCS member, Dwight, up in Wrightwood. He's not been around for a very long time, so I don't know, for sure, what's up with him. But, maybe we can scare him up, and then the three of us can get together for a weekend campout and some stove fun. In any case, have fun in Texas, my Home State, by the way!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hey Guys, stumbled across the site yesterday while looking for info on coleman stoves. Wow , must say it is pretty awsome. I'm new to the whole campstove collecting, I mean new (weeks). I have nothing special, but am very interested in the stove collecting. Any way I live 10 to 15 miles south of your up coming gathering. Is this a open to vet members only gathering? I am definetely interested in poking my head in on saturday, if it is open to all members old and new. And baja where abouts do you live, I'm here in Grover City (Beach).
Howdy, Haveablast, Heck no!! This Stove Gathering is open to any and all Stovies, of all stripes!!! From what Jim recently wrote, the campground it already filled. But, if you want to bring a backpacking tent and camp, I'm sure we can squeeze you in, someplace. Or, being from Grover Beach, which is within spitting distance, you could come and go, as you wish, and sleep in your own bed each night, should you wish to do it that way. Baja and Mrs. Bum will be there on Wednesday, and Sweet Bride and I will roll in on Thursday. Others will be drifting in as they can get there. Now, don't expect this to be a huge event, as I have a strong feeling that it's going to be small and relatively quiet. But, hey, it's a start!! 8) Bring any stoves, or lanterns, that you wish to "show off", and plan on using them, too! By the way, just so you can tell who we are: Baja Bum looks exactly like Cary Grant, and I have more than a passing resemblance to David Niven........ (been known to stretch the truth a bit, here and there, too!!) I'll be driving a white Jeep Liberty, with a small trailer, and Baja will have a pickup, with a pop-up trailer behind it. I think Gordon will also have a truck. Hobo is "thumbing" it in, and a few more friends may drop by, if they get the chance. Hope to see you there!! By the way, right up your way, a couple of years ago, I got a nice Optimus 930 brass lantern, which burns kerosene, for a steal of a price. Last year, I found a really old, nasty, Optimus 00, in a local antique store up your way (ugly as all hell, but worked like a champ, right out of the old canvas bag it was in!). And this year, on the way up, I got an old Coleman triple burner suitcase stove, and also found an Optimus 80, two Coleman 502's, with their original cookset/storage cans, an old Coleman 228 lantern from 1945, AND my wife found me a very nice, old Optimus Campingo, all right in your neighborhood, Lad!!! Get out there and stir the bushes, 'cause you never know WHAT you might find when you do!! 8) 8) Hope to see you next week! What's your name, by the way? Do you want us to call you "Haveablast"? That's OK, if that's what you prefer. We all sort of switch in and out of our CCS names. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hey Doc, My name is Brad. Thanks for making me feel welcome. From the looks of it I best start raiding garage sales, thrift stores, and the swapmeet. If I come I will probably just hang for a bit on saturday, meet you guys and start drooling over the.........I mean check out the collections and hopefully hear some great stories. I'll probably bring my buddy, who is a coleman freak. We don't have much or know much but it sounds like fun. Thanks again
Evening, Brad! You are very welcome, Lad, and we'll look forward to seeing you a week from Saturday!! By all means, bring anything that you want to show, and don't worry if you only have a few items. We ALL started that way, and before you know it, you'll be building an addition onto your home, or renting a storage garage, to house your huge collection of stoves and lanterns!!! We ALL go through that, too!! 8) See you soon, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Morning, Keith and Manny, Fyldefox, we resemble that remark, Sir!!! "Badgers, we don't got to show you no e'stinking badgers"!! What? Oh, you mean, BADGES??? Well... that's very different, then......! 8) Manny, you WILL be there, just like the photo of your "Spirit Self", hovering out over Lake Gregory, whilst I was brewing up a cuppa on my little Borde!!! In fact, all of our Stove Mates will be there, in spirit, which is good, because I foresee only about 6 folks actually showing up, in temporal form, for this little soiree!!! Even if our numbers are small, we'll have a fine time, of that, I'm certain!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Gordon, Are we still planning on a pot luck on Friday? The reason I'm asking is we were planning on doing hot dogs etc on saturday lunch, same idea, pot luck... we are going to bring the Brats and buns, and a big pot of sweet beans and condiments . any volunteers for potato /macaronie salad, chips etc? Y'all come hungry, hear ?!! Friday nites @ Gordons, saturday lunch at my place, all the rest of the meals at Doc's Cafe'... Doc, I do not look like Clark gable, I look like 'Wilford Brimley'
Steve, Doc and All: I have some relatively new kit to try out with my Dutch Ovens, etc. I plan a beef stew and roasted corn on the cob at my place Friday night. \ \ If someone wants to bring some corn bread for the stew to go over it would be great!! Beans, salad, bread and anything else to kick in would be welcome. I believe that each site will have a picnic table and I will bring a folding 2.5 x 6 foot table along with a few chairs. Best to bring you own plate, spoons, chairs, etc along when visiting another's pot luck site. Any estimate of a head count? THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN!!! Gordon
Hey, Gordon, We'll be happy to make some cornbread, and also kick in some other goodies. So, for Saturday, are Sweet Bride and I on the hook for cooking???!! 8) We can come up with something fun. Anyone have food problems, of any kind, or do you all eat whatever's put before you, like me? 8) As to numbers, I don't think we're going to be able to know, exactly, how many folks will show up. In truth, I think it will be Steve and Joanne, Gordon, and Sweet Bride and me. I know of a few that have told me that might show up on Saturday, just for the day, and Lance may show up, or may not, depending on what happens on a possible chore he needs to do. Hobo was talking about thumbing in for the meet, but I don't know, for sure, if he'll make it, or not. Other than that, Lads, I think "we're" about it!! No matter, as we'll have fun, whether we have company, or not. By the way, longtime CCS member, Dwight, told me that he would love to come. But his 14 year old pup, Woody, had a turn for the worse recently, and Dwight needs to stay closer to home, right now. IF Woody makes a miraculous recovery, and Dwight says he IS doing much better than at first thought, then the pair of them might try to join us. But, Dwight told me not to count on it. We were planning on cooking for ourselves everyday, anyway, and then sharing on pot luck nights. So, if someone else shows up, there should be plenty of food. Baja, Mrs. Baja, Gordon, and anyone else that plans to show up, please have a safe and sound trip, and we'll see you very soon!!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Thanks Doc. =D> =D> I will plan on about 6 or 7 to cover late shows. 8) I will be doing the stew and corn. I might try some to make some experimental southern style corn bread (unsweetened) in a camp oven but would like to rely on yours as a sure thing. \ \ I also will be bringing an old grill made in Bermingham, Alabama. It appears to be old and is bigger and better made than the Coleman grill. It works great when placed on top of two Coleman 500's. So.......................... If you are up for it we can give it a try for a French Toast and/or pancake breakfast one morning. Of course it will also handle making a variety of eggs, hash browns, etc. I will also bring an extra large fry pan for the banger, bacon etc. I have two 500's in good fettle and will try to make sure I have one or two more up and running by the time we meet. These babies are my work horses!! =D> =D> Do you have any idea of how close the nearest market is from the camp ground? It is going to be a blast!! \ \ \ \ Gordon
Hi guys, Doc, I was just kidding about your being 'camp Chef' I figure that apart from the two pot luck meals, every body is on their own... I've been practising with my Coleman oven, did up a nice roast pork loin, and then cornbread. The nearest market is about 5 miles back up the road, as is the nearest 'Pub'
Hiya, all, If you all don't mind kids being brought along, I'd like to join you on Saturday. My daughter and I will be staying at one of the walk-in sites over the weekend. Is there a specific time set for meeting on Saturday? Will there be a potluck? If so, any suggestions for what to bring? I'm going be heading for a week-long backpack trip in the eastern Sierra the following weekend, so I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me get my stoves, a SVEA 123r and an Optimus 99, in top shape for the trip. (I haven't yet decided which one I'm going to take)
Howdy, Gents, Hey, this is shaping up into a "real" event, huh!!??! 8) Gordon, I think that Sweet Bride can turn out a very nice bit of her wonderful cornbread, though she's not done it in a camping situation. We'll bring lots of goodies, just in case. Like Baja said, we were planning on cooking on our own for most of this meet, and only doing one potluck, where we all share goodies. But, we're open to whatever comes along, so if you guys want to do two potlucks, we'll be happy to join in the fun. Baja, we've been told that, not far away, there are some good restaurants, too, for those that might wish to have a "change of pace". We'll stay in camp, and enjoy some good, old, camp cooking, though! You mentioned showers available at a nearby spot, and we may take advantage of those..... or, we may not!! 8) Ogg, we'll all be glad to see you there, if you can make it. Baja is planning a potluck lunch, if I'm not mistaken, so you can bring some lunch stuff to share. (Baja, any suggestions as to what you want us to bring??) I'm not planning on doing a lot of fettling, but will be bringing a few tools and parts, to work on some stoves that Hazet may bring, if he can make it, and I'll be glad to take a squint at your stoves. What's wrong with your two stoves, if I may ask? In any case, it will be great to meet you and your daughter! This IS going to be some outstanding fun, Gents!!! Both Sweet Bride and I are really looking forward to it!!! Take care, Lads, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
