Well, I'm in San Francisco, and will start heading south (again!!!) on monday, hopeing that the extra day will give me leway time to get there on time. I'll check my messages and PMs on Monday before I leave so.... PS, if anyone is in or around the area w/ a vehichle...? [-o
Hey, 111T, And, then swap them all around with one another, so as to confuse, even, ourselves!!! Actually, I've already met Baja and Mrs. Bum, so that won't be hard, and I think I'd recognize Gordon, just from his posts. I've seen a photo of Hobo, and as he IS hitching down that way, should be able to recognize him. And, if Lance shows up, he and I have seen one another quite a few times, and have broken bread together. So, most of us will know one another. AS to anyone who happens to "wander in", hey, they're on their own!!! It will be a small gathering, so we should be able to keep the intros in line, hopefully. Good idea, though! Of course, since Baja plans to be butt-nekkid, most of the time he'll have no place to pin his name tag....!! (Stapler, anyone???!!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hi Doc I am sure your meet will be a resounding success. The numbers really don't matter. Some of the best meets I have attended have involved very small numbers of wonderful stovies. The intimacies of a close-knit gathering are something special. Whoever turns up, have a great meet (and take lots and lots of photos!!). Trevor
. . . I think you need to taper off that 'Furrin' Beer, Doc ! Where, exactly did that come from !!!???
Hey, Trevor, Thanks, very much, and I agree with you 100%! Whomever shows up will have a good time, and that's the important thing! Wish you could join us, Mate, as it would be outstanding to have your there, too! Thanks for your well wishes, and you may rest assured that we'll take plenty of photos! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hey, Brother Baja, Well.... as me old Grandma used to say, "What.... did you pull that one out of your arse"???!!!! Guess I got carried away, Lad!! Sorry!! I HAD to choose SOMEONE to be the nekkid one, might as well be you, eh???!!!! Take care, see you soon, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Steve (Baja): Yesterday I bought 2 of those little whimpy seedless watermelons for the lunch. They should be sufficient for about 8 mouths. \ \ Since I will be passing through SLO on the way I will be making a stop there to pick up the fresh veggies needed for the Friday evening pot luck. That will, of course, include the sweetest, small kernel roasting corn I can find. \ \ The beef stew will consist of beef, carrots, potatoes and onions. I may throw in some diced portobellows, if there are no objections to some shrooms in the stew. If any one has any reservations re mushrooms speak up now. BTW I will be cooking with the fire pit coals, charcoal, and the Coleman 500's, depending on the item. I have a mint Kelly Kettle (the large one), with the nested water flask, that I will be using for the first time to boil up some water for morning jump start brew. I may be using one of my Taykits for the heat source. This will probably be the first boil/time check ever performed on this combo. =D> =D> If you have a time estimate log it in now. #-o #-o Y'all are more than welcome to join me for some morning Joe, but please bring you own mug (chair if needed) and sugar (don't use the stuff--Doc's (not the CCS kind) orders). Gordon
Morning, Gordon, Sounds outstanding! You should probably know that Sweet Bride and I are both on a see food diet: We SEE food, and we eat it!!! Not too picky, that's us!! 8) One very important thing, though, as I can't remember if there will be piped water at each campsite. But, we're sticklers on hand washing, especially when many of us will be cooking for the group!!! I've seen WAY too many cases of medical problems brought on by hand/fecal contamination from the cook, and I would like to ask that we all pay very close attention to making sure we're washing before cooking and eating. To that end, if there is no piped water, Sweet Bride and I will bring our 7 gallon reproduction 18th century copper cistern, and some good lye soap. This soap has been aged for many years and is as mild as a babie's arse! Good stuff! In any case, we'll probably bring it, just for grins, and everyone there is more than welcome to use it for hand washing. We'll be coming from the other direction from SLO, but will more than likely have all our food packed already before we leave. Mostly, we're tea drinkers, though Sweet Bride does like a good cuppa on occasion. I love to "make" coffee, as I very much enjoy the aroma, but can't stand to drink it!!! We're going to have a fun time, Gordon (and all others who can attend)!! See you soon!! Talk to you later, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc P.S. The hardest part of preparing for the first CA Stove Gathering, is deciding which, and how many, stoves to bring!!! So many stoves, so little time...... !!!! 8) 8) 8)
Gordon We all Vote for the shrooms !!! Love them ! Errrrr, I did mention that my daughter and son in law are coming, didn't I ? Plus the newest grand-brat ( who doesn't eat much )... Better plan on 10 showing up !
Sure don't want to steal anyone's thunder. Doc, are you trying to hint that you will be making the coffee? =D> =D> \ Don't mind a bit! 8) 8) Just pulling your leg!! \ \ If you make the trek to my abode y'all are always welcome to a swig or two of morning brew. Steve: I'll get enough corn for all and will make the stew in the large Dutch Oven. There should be enough for a few seconds, if anyone is brave enough after the first dose. The weed eater just craped #-o out so I'm on break. Have to head south a bit to round up another to continue the never ending saga of "yard work". Gordon
hi. i just wanted to let everyone know that as it stands right now, unless something dramatic happens this week, i will not be able to make it. the bus isn't ready, and am hesitant to ask my friend who i am borrowing a car from, if it would be ok to go that far away. i know i will see all the pics and be very sad about not being able to attend. i am really bummed out about this decision. so everyone have fun, and take lots of pics please. Jon
Hey, Guys, Yes, by all means, we vote for schooms, and lots of 'em!!! 8) As to coffee, if Sweet Bride wants some, I'll probably make it. But, if she's feeling brave, she may wander over to your camp, cup in hand....!! 8) Knowing how some others of our CCS Mates like their coffee, which is so thick that you can stand a fork in it, she might be better advised to just take a full cup, when we come visiting!! 8) Jon, sorry to hear that you can't make it, but I know everyone will understand. After all, this is just a hobby, and life sometimes gets in our way of it!! All the best with the Bus, and Sweet Bride and I hope you get it back up and running in no time!! Baja, sure, you bet! Stove Family, is Stove Family, so we're all "related", right??!!!! 8) It will be great to meet your daughter and her family! Talk to you all later, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
welllll,....it's monday and I just found out how far it is to SLO fro SF. Sorry, but, at this point, w/out a ride, I won't make it in time. I'm realy sorry lads, I was looking forward to meeting all o y'all. Just got on the wrong side of the callandar.
Hey, Hobo, Sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it, Lad! Lance called today, when I was down the mountain, and he won't be able to be there, either. Bummer!! Lance just got a load that must go to Louisiana, and unfortunately, cannot route his trip to come near us in Morro Bay. Not to worry, Lads. I have a feeling this will be the first of many such Stove Gatherings! How about a Gathering in Yosemite? How about one in the Mojave Desert, in special places about which Brother Arch can probably tell us? How about one down near us, over West of Wrightwood? Great little campground over that way, with bathrooms, and piped water!! How about one up more near our Pacific Northwest Brothers? I'm up for a little drive, if the rest of you are!!!! The US is both blessed, and cursed, to have SO much land mass! What is a 200 mile drive to most Countries, can easily turn into several THOUSAND miles, here in the US!!! But, fear not, for we SHALL have more Western Stove Gatherings!!! To all who would like to be there, but cannot, those few of us who attend the first CA Stove Gathering will hoist a glass, or three, to your health and happiness!!! Take care, Lads, and God Bless!! Every Good Wish, Doc
I was gonna try to make it there, it ain't but 742 miles to El Paso and thats a little over half way there, but decided to wait for the next one. Best, Bob
I am jealous. You guys have a good time. Do keep us posted on future campouts. Yosemite and Mojave sound great and Wrightwood is close to home. I also kind of like to campout in Deathvalley in the winter, spectacular stars, but can be colder than heck. But NO crowding. Have fun, post pictures. Jim Henderson
It's over ! It was a small event, but great fun ! Those in attendance were: Doc and Sweet Bride, Baja and SWMBO, Joanne, and last but not least, Gordon Thomas Plus my daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Ken and newest grand-pup Elliot 8) We had some Very good meals (NO spam) , lots of great conversation, A few 'Adult' beverages, and played with a Lot of stoves !!! I came home today, took a blessed shower and am now at work, very tired, but happy! Doc is staying on there for a few days more rest, then on to business at S.L.O. Gordon is driving back to Santa Rosa, CA, about 6 hours or so... No pictures to show yet, I can't bring a camera into the Site... So it'l probably be tomorrow ... Oh,yes... David, I'm sorry, you're no longer 'King of the Fire-Balls'... Gordon has ascended to the throne, lighting (Get this) a coleman 500 !!! Pix to follow !!!
