I wasn't sure where to put this as I don't know where Chalwyn stoves were made and there don't seem to be many posted in CCS. It has been seriously polished but the stampings are just about visible OK. It is marked in the base 706 which I assume is perhaps a date? Seems to be a pretty well made and robust beast and it burns well. ::Neil::
Neil My understanding is that Chalwyn stoves were originally made in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) and that later Chalwyn opened a factory in South Africa. De clutter? not hardly. Plenty of room here yet. You can still walk through some of the rooms. No I got bored so started to fettle a few stoves and make them run. Easier than a lot of lamps and a few seemed to be rather more interesting than the average. Mind you with my considerable ignorance on stoves I am not really sure what average might mean. ::Neil::
I'm guessing you've done a Chalwyn search Neil so you're aware they are pretty uncommon. As above the best home for images would be British (other) unless you know it's South African. You know as much as anyone about British manufacturing during the 50's and the complexity of the mergers etc so it's aways a guessing game with these things. I must get a mantle for the Superb you helped out with several years ago and give it another run out and bring it to Newark. @mackburner
Hello, This is my first post here as I've just started collecting old stoves like these. I just ordered a Chalwyn stove just like this from GB! It is missing the top just like the one above is. I'm guessing this is common on these stoves? Any idea where to get a replacement? Thanks! Mike
@Michael Roth Are you asking about the trivet (the “plate” that fits above the burner atop the three legs of the stove? If so, they are available on the Bay of Evil. Make sure you get the correct size. Tony
