    Greetings,

Before storing away my Svea 106 Brass Kerosene/Paraffin stove, I emptied the fuel out.

Would I do well to clean out the inside in some way before putting the caps back on and storing it away for a while?

I ask because it has sat for a few days with the caps off and there is still some kero in there. It doesn't evaporate so easily, I think.

Should I swish some white gas fuel around the tank as a "solvent" and let that dry out? Or anything else (vinegar and water?)? Or just leave it be and not fret about it? I don't know if kerosene deteriorates or forms a film of some kind if just left in there. If leaving it be is fine, I'm happy to do that !

Any suggestions before putting "The King of Stoves" to sleep for a season or two?

    Cheers,
    Griz

Just a small amount of kerosene will only serve as corrosion protection so I would put the cap on and store it.
Larger amounts of kero drying out over long time could leave a waxy residue that usually dilutes in lukewarm kerosene.

I too would cap it and not worry about it.

Thanks so much for the replies!

That’s exactly the kind of answer I was hoping to hear!

I didn’t know if kerosene would just turn to shellac or some sort of gummy substance that might gum up the works.

    Cheers

Vegetable lamp oils can do nasty tricks like that.

A salesman sold a vegetable oil cutting fliuid to a big company I worked at. They put this 'great' oil in the Hardinge Lathes.
It do not take long, days, before it locked up the entire lathe, all of them. They were completely torn down, cleaned, and rebuilt. It even clouded the clear sidewalls.
