Hi everyone, I took my newest stove camping last weekend. At 3,000ft with a 20-30mph wind my 442 would not work, just a large yellow flame about six inches tall With a 12" aluminium screen around it, after about 3-5 mins it settled down and worked fine. I am thnking that it was the generator tube being too cold? If so I am a not to happy with a performance like that. Any views fellow stovies? Best wishes, Alan
Was it cold enough to need preheat paste? this is more likely if using Coleman juice - - Petrol seems to get going better, this is just a thought (I know not of what I talk) but could the altitude have an influence on the flame i.e same amount of fuel - but less oxygen = rich mix = yellow flame.
3,000 foot is not a significant altitude - but 20-30 mph is F5/F6, I'd expect to be using a windshield (not wrapped right round) on any stove in that wind. except a trangia.
