Still haven't found any holes, so that may have been a misdiagnosis. But there's something still very wrong with it. Here's how it was behaving (pretty, huh?)
There’a post on the CCS latest site which illustrates exactly the same flame burst as your Solus, in this case a Monitor. The owner concludes there is a leak in the area of the riser . You might be interested to see this. Look under Monitor stoves in the letter section under where the pictures get shown
THanks, Tony, that's something that I'll look for , though getting it clean will be a chore as I don't have a bead blasting setup. @David Burnett keep in mind there is nothing explicitly Coleman about this part. I.e. it's not imprinted anywhere. The silent cap would have had the company logo, but I don't have that part. So if a Primus 45 or whatever is funtionally the same, you may be better off with one of those. That said, I'll keep at this repair.
The stove operates fine with another burner using these caps. Whatever issue, be it underburn or something else, is specific to this burner and not with the caps.
There are numerous outer and inner style caps, many times you have to move them around as burners vary in style also. Duane
I tried several different combinations of caps and this burner always behaved the same. The replacement (identical to this one), always performs fine. Thus my conclusion that there is a flaw in the burner.
@elcarlstono As alluded to by @Tony Press in his link above (and subsequent links within that), your burner appears to have a leak around a outer tube causing the underburn…
Did my picture arrive? Might you have time when you’re here to visit Ludlow. There’s a train from Bath. We might have scallops for lunch at the Angel Inn.
I got the picture. Here it is for the forum to see. You are also missing the "Coupling" (part 524), preheat cup (563), and a number of gaskets which can be obtained aftermarket. I'm afraid that without the coupling the burner won't do you any good.
