Wondering if such a thing exists? I've seen various galleries and such, showing 1 to many examples of various stoves, and maybe what year that stove is, but curious if there's anything that very straightforwardly lists: Model Years built Differences from previous similar model Photo I've actually been thinking of doing it myself if it doesn't already exist. The key is you'd be able to instantly see what the differences are between say a 400, 400A, 400B, 442, etc. Thoughts?
Even their list is flawed, doesn't show when the 502 ended production, or even acknowledge the existence of the 520 or 536! Murph
There do seem to be flaws with this chart. The 2nd column of models has the rightside edge cut. The 400 series seems to be missing too. It's still more info in one place then anywhere else.
Well the nice thing is if a new comprehensive listing was started, there's a few sources which could likely be used as references. I'm interested in setting something up, just debating the best way to do so. Ideally something where you could use crowd sourcing so people could just go in and enter info that's missing that they know, but with the ability to roll back vandalism. Similar to wikipedia I suppose. I'm going to ponder that this weekend. Actually, why not just a wikipedia article. That' s the easiest idea by far. It could just be linked off the "See Also" section of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_stove and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleman_Company I'll create an article this weekend. You need to references for all of the info in a wikipedia page, but luckily all of these incomplete sites can be used as the references.
Good on ya. Don't be discouraged by missing info, just leave room so if someone chimes in, it can be added later. Kinda like my life. Where the details of the years from the last half of '62 through the first half of '68 are extremely sketchy and are remembered, insofar as I DO remember. as if seen through a heavy fog. Sometimes the memories are accompanied by music from Jimmie Hendrix, The Beatles and The Doors, other times by loud voices, wailing sirens and flashing blue lights. I also had the joy of waking up naked in strange places to the unpleasant glare of a naked 15 watt light hanging on a ratty wire from the ceiling. Usually, going back to sleep helped some in those occasions. Usually. I do remember waking up sputtering and choking in the middle of Lake Union in Seattle late one night to the hysterical laughter of my friend who was operating the boat I had been riding in. That memory's pretty sharp, including falling in again at the dock when I stepped around the windshield and onto the varnished foredeck. Luckily I both swim fairly well and missed the dock. That could have smarted. I even asked my sawyer of bones at the clinic Da Missus takes me to for attention and medicition if there's a way to clarify others of those memories in a way that won't involve hysterical screaming on my part or rolling himself into the fetal position in a corner and sobbing uncontrollably on the part of the "facilitator". I also gave a caveat that the "facilitator" must sign binding releases and provide his own psychiatric care and medications. The Doc. told me he could offer no guarantees, that I was pretty much on my own, and please leave now. Maybe the Seattle Police would be willing to try, for whatever information they could get on cold cases where the statutes of limitations don't yet apply. Or even for the giggle factor. Some of my memories have elicited a quiet snicker or two. The best one was a shocked, wide eyed, gasping: "OHMIGOD! OHMIGOD! OHMIGOD! OH. MY. GOD!! That. was. YOU???" Followed by rapidly receding footsteps and slamming doors. I think my boyish yet ruggedly masculine handsomeness must have panicked her. There's no other reasonable explanation. I do wish I could remember which memory it was and who it was I remembered it to. We probably have stories to share if not jail cells. Perhaps it was merely that I have another child or two I never knew about. Apparently I was quite appealing as a youth. Have any of you guys ever awakened bolt upright screaming and dripping in cold sweat from a nightmare where a snarling, teenage hottie knocks on your door in the night then sarcastically "greets" you with a very nasty "Hi, you slimy basta... Honey, guess what? I have your a bun in the oven!!" Yeah, me neither. Gerry
Not sure how much having memories also accompanied by the beatles mattered, I would think ALL got a kick out of your lines #2 – 26, THAT was some fun. Thx Gerry!!!. Skorpious as to your last post and Gerry (line #1) of others chimning in. I encourage your iniative and to post a list. I have previously mentioned as well although there is interest in Coleman on here world-wide, the forum is so much more. IE only one moderator is from the US side of the pond. We can see the site reaches many members but not AS many get excited about Coleman. But hey, let’s get this party started? Why not and ya gotta start somewhere. I think, you will genetrate more interest if it starts w/older vs newer. IE for myself, 1 burners: GI pocket stoves, 500, 501, the 62-ish 501-502’s, and 502… -end- This should probably go in a 502 post BUT this list may help on the 502 front. I’m familiar w/the 501 story no need to include that except only as it pertains to the 502. I don’t know the FIRST thing about the 502 (for certain)or the LAST thing for that matter. Does anybody know specifics as to the FIRST month a (Coleman Co. converted 501) model 502 came out/was SOLD ? Coleman provided replacements for 501’s but what mo did they SELL the 1st converted 501 model 502? Or the FIRST month for a 502 w/o any 501 stamping? AND what is the LAST month of 502 production? This site may have mentioned ’83 yet I’m thinking I’ve seen a Sep 84. thx best regards.
