To-day I have seen on ebay a (Listed 23/9/09) Brand New Army Mk12 Diesel stove, Would this run on Paraffin (I think I have just increased the price for the sellers by finding them new buyers )
The item number is 270460601248 Suggest this goes over to Auction Watch. Paraffin should run in a diesel stove, it will burn cleaner, but cost more to run. There is a website.
Stateside, what is sold as kerosene IS Number 1 Diesel. (this being even cleaner than the "low-sulpher diesel fuel mandated by the government) Either clear, or red dyed. They are very close on the "fractional distillation" scale. Very (practically the same) close. Lance drives a diesel rig and can probably shed even more light on the question. What say road warrior? I bet you have even more insight!
I've been running bio-diesel in both a Ford 7.3L diesel and a smaller John Deere 4 cylinder diesel. I asked the seller/manufacturer what additives are in bio-diesel. Answer is....none. Why wouldn't it function as well as kero/parrafin in any suitable stove? Has this subject been covered elsewhere in the forum? Current cost is $2.25 for US gallon. Best, Bob
I'm sure you already know this, but: 1) ya got ta keep the bioD warm. 2) ya got to filter the hell out of it. 3) it's hard to light and keep burning. And if it's the same price as K1 clear kero, why bother ??
In my limited experience with it, I haven't experienced any of points 1,2 or 3. A one gallon container (may be a 2 gallon container) of K-1 kero is about $9.00 in a local sporting goods store and I haven't shopped elsewhere but haven't seen it at $2.25. It's a desperate situation ,economically, if you're considering diesel as other than for the use in a compression ignition engine or a .. Smelly 'orrible stuff .. good for cars & unsiezing mechanisms. If diesel is a consideration for stove fuel ?/.. What price is vegetable oil? It can be used as a portable pressure stove fuel . But ..My Reckoning ... Only if its coming for free & you're keeping the stove running 10+ hours per day & are prepared to involve in grubby/dirty/hot & smelly maintenance. An oil fed AGA is probably the best example of a diesel burner. Cars & trucks & prime movers .. Not the best for pressure stoves . 2cents.. Coat on .. Wheres the door .. Nick
