When I go camping in my car, I have a Markill Stormy with gas burner and permanently a Swedish Army stove with spirit burner, for a quiet cup of tea in a quiet place or amongst other people.
@Odd , I worked at a Triumph dealer over here in the late 70's early 80's, and loved the TR8's with their Buick V8 motors! I almost bought one (cheap!) about 95, but was planning on moving so I passed, been buggin me ever since. Pictures of your? The one I passed on was a convertible, $800 if I recall. Despite being badged a TR8, if I recall it had the 4 cylinder motor. Good memories.
Not in the car but got 2 Trangia's in the campervan as I prefer cooking outside. One of the Trangia's is going to be replaced with a kero discus stove as it gives less soot on the frying pan. The huge air gap when frying on the Trangia creates a soot fest. Soot doesn't bother me usually but in the van wash up water can be in short supply.
I've got a small 'breakdown' box in the car which includes a Trangia 27 with some 3 in 1 coffee, 2l water and a couple of BiB ration pack meals.
Currently, this one ... Which is a hybrid of an Atos valve & jet assembly and a Globetrotter burner head/windshield. The control spindle had to be shortened by about 6mm so that it would fit in the GT pans.
Thanks folks, appreciate the input. @rik_uk3 Is 3 in 1 coffee an instant coffee, cream, and sugar mix all in one packet? Here it's an oil. Immediate plan for a truck stove, based on the best fit out of what's in my inventory right now, is an aluminum M40(light weight). I think there's extra room to put a KFS set, a couple tea bags, some sugar and powdered milk, and a couple kuksa inside. Probably swap out the military burner for a Trangia burner, as it's smaller and has a simmer ring and snuffer. Fuel bottle to ride separately. Long term plan is keeping my eyes open for a 199 set up to burn kerosene, or another self contained tinned kero burner. Preferably something with the pot or pan built into the tin. If anyone wants to trade me something like that for my spare M40(stainless or aluminum) plus some $$$, let me know.
Marc wrote, "Is 3 in 1 coffee an instant coffee, cream, and sugar mix all in one packet." Yes. It's a gp oil here too.
Kenco 3 in 1 coffee is about the best of them. I put my brew box in the car when I got it in 2017 and its not been used so for me no point in carrying 'good' coffee//french press/sugar etc.
@Marc A wonderful surprise is how really good this instant coffee is. Mount Hagen -REGULAR Organic Instant Coffee Freeze Dried 25 Single Serve Packets
Morning, All, Due to the sometimes exceedingly hot weather we get, I don't leave a stove, nor fuel in either truck. When we travel, yes, indeed. But, just to leave it out there in the heat, IMHO, just causes the seals, gaskets, and pips to harden faster, and could cause problems with the fuel. I could be wrong, but that's my 'tuppence. When we do travel, I love a 111T, a Trangia 25, or an MSR Whisperlite Universal. All three are trusted, easy to use, and get the job done! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Ditto to Doc Mark's comment. I'd like to leave a stove and fuel in my vehicles, but I wouldn't feel comfortable about it. ....Arch
I recently purchased Fire Dragon solid fuel. Any ideas if that would be a better fuel for car storage? I cannot find any reason not to.
I'm not worried about leaving a stove and fuel in my truck, which lives 99% of it's days in the same building as my fettling bench, with fuels available. Ken, those Firedragon cubes are interesting. They remind me of Weber's charcoal lighter cubes, including the sealed vapor barrier packaging. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Weber-Lighter-Cubes-24-Pack/3151081 Looking up the NSN, the description is "fuel, jellied alcohol." Looking forward to hearing how you like them.
Oh, there's also 18 gallons of diesel on the same vehicle. Not in the cab, I'll grant, but it's not a fuel-free environment.
