Does anyone else look at all their stoves to see which one you will take on a trip?

I've had that with a lantern, walking a 9 mile round route over the bleak and desolate Salisbury Plain at night in winter. It occurred to me that it was dark of the moon and then the mist came down... and I was not carrying matches and meths. If the lamp went out I would see absolutely nothing, and would have to try and feel for the edge of the road all my way home, if I ever got there!

I'm here typing this now, thankfully my Bialaddins don't tend to let me down!

 

Funny you mention that, but yeah actually I have a legged dutch oven I have made cinnamon rolls in before, and baked nachos for dinner to be different. Its definitely coming

 

@Blackdog had the same, but on my lantern I forgot mantles...and had one falling apart. Ended up nursing that one for the night and going to the local gas station for more mantles...but had fuel so that was a plus haha

 

Ahh the joy of anything that requires remembering to take along spares and tools.... you may end up needing to fix it, but at least you can fix it!

 

Oh wow, that is priceless. The nearest you’d get to a mantle in a fuel station here would be a Mars bar and that’s because they’d have to look it up in the inventory and it isn’t there! I don’t think you’d even find matches these days.

You have reservation in place, correct? Somewhat depends on your menu. Some stoves don't simmer and you don't want brunt food. Being dinner I am thinking couple burners for proper meal. Can't beat a small suitcase for providing a stable cooking surface even on the ground. Do a menu test run in the backyard so no surprises in the wilds. Should have your campfire permit handy when using stove. Have fun and enjoy.

 

I bring a 413 suitcase stove and generally 10-12 single burners, trying to use each so I can spread the love.

 

That resembles my wife’s textile “stash”. A pile of fabrics acquired over a lifetime. She is a SABLE. Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectation. Items are pulled out and stroked then put back. If something is expended then a shopping event usually replaces three more.

Pictures or it didn't happen folks! Last week outing used all nine and two lanterns. A bit excessive I know, but use them or lose them. Don't do any good collecting dust on shelf. Day use areas that have the charcoal grills allow stoves and the falls should be spectacular. (Huell Howser)

Thanks, the baby ender is a nice stove. Low and sturdy, never going to tip. Same for the enders 9061.

 

in a few weeks i go on my first of three summer camp outs.
i wish i took a photo but i set the front runners on my basement steps
so i could them over.at eye level i got a better view than on the floor
or a crowded table.more later on the winners.
how about a shot of the food sort? i buy more at the local market

 

@DAVE GIBSON wait...wait a minute...is that canned potato salad???? I have never seen that before...I will take a lot of photos on the trip to include the food and other stuff so I will make a post about it when we get back

 

@Remus1956 Yea I see that too. Not sure if I will be looking for it anytime soon. I have eaten some strange stuff location location location makes it better.

@Daryl that is sad actually. I am planning on a lot of photos for sure, there is a lot to do up there and on the way up to Yosemite. But also we plan on the dinners to be cooked outdoors so that will be great.

Regarding your 508...what is that? Its a wind screen? I have two of those stoves and never seen that before.

 

Peak 1 wind screen on 400A. Fits several coleman stoves with X grate.

Yes I’d be very interested in what food folks take on camp out, hikes and breaks. My take is, as in many things, primitive. I own a vegetable peeler. I suppose it depends on whether the purpose of the outing is the countryside, exercising the stove or the camp life itself. I know it’s all of them but I’m guessing we each balance those things in our own way.

@hikerduane - you mention “….which pot.” Do you mean cooking pot because I’d be interested in CCS members favourite stove pots/kettles/frying pans.
