I see no dishonesty involved. And, Owen, you are quite evidently of the "stove world" yourself. All the same, even unrepentant capitalists like myself see it as a little much to be pricing a little Enders stove at $400. Sure, it's not a reserve price... I reckon I shouldn'ta ougta fired up that virgin 210 on the Carbon River last weekend, I wouldn't take a lot of E-benzin babies for that one! I have one of the B-B; alas, it's a bit scuffed....
I wouldn't be totally shocked if someone picked it up at that price. I sure as heck would sell it too! I would think Owen isn't really interested in selling based on the asking price? Best of luck with it. If you do light it up, we want pictures! CB
Hello, Owen, I would have posted this one sooner, but the website was inaccessible for some reason--right before Ed posted. I think it?s your prerogative to do whatever you wish with your own stove, including selling on the eBay. After having consulted with the forum, it might have occurred to you to put it up for sale. I do not think any one can blame you for that. I know a few forum members are sellers/ buyers themselves. It's just that, in the past, a few people insinuated their "interest" in the membership, in order to extract the info they were seeking. Sometimes it is hard to discern genuine folk from the otherwise. If you feel you have been mistreated, I also offer you my apology. I wish you a success attracting the rightful buyer with the BIN, although it might be a tad challenging bid. But for the curiosity that you have about your stove--Enders Baby will perform at a slightly less level than a regular Optimus 8R. 8R has a larger output, and has less items to get lost. I do not mean to say that Enders is an inferior stove to 8R. It will hold its own, and by the esthetical standard, it sure is the winner over 8R. Who can resist its "cuteness"? Enders wins the beauty pageant cold. If you decided to keep it for yourself, if it turns out so, I would recommend you leave it virgin, and instead buy a used one from the eBay. That one you can use and enjoy, knowing full-well that you have a virgin, hard-to-procure Baby. Other Satan's Advocates here at the forum will tell you to fire it up, saying, "A stove is born to be used," etc., do not listen to them.
Hey, B2M, Very well said, Sir, and I couldn't agree more!!! See, Owen, we're not so bad, when you get to know us!! Anyway, Bark2Much, thanks for your thoughts, as they are right on the money. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Urrrr If I had a herem of beuties. I doubt if any would stay a virgin for long!!! Barra (one of them barbaric/uncooth colonials)
If there were a herem of virgin at all, you must have been the only male in the world. If there were a herem of virgin at all, it was not for the reason of the unmentionable, I am afraid, B. It would have been for the reason that they had been virgin for about 80 years.
Heck, the way e-prey prices have been going lately I wouldn't be surprised if someone gives him the $400!!!
Owen: You have the right to do whatever you like with the stove. I think we on the forum just are a bit too stovefanatic (or lampfanatic), that we sometimes would like otherminded to think just the way we think about these beauties. Take the different suggestions as alternatives, figure out what you want to do with the stove. If you don't need the stove or you are a collector and this is a dublicate, don't hesitate to sell it if it feels that way. If you don't have a stove from earlier, there is a pretty big risk that if you light this stove up and make coffee or prepare food on it, you will be addicted and we will probably see a lot of postings from you in the future, where you ask for advice or where you put up pictures of your new findings. And all you others: If some of you use to buy on auction places like E-bay, don't you think it is a good thing if someone puts in a posting on the forum if they are selling something that we are interested in and some even might have been searching for? Personally I don't buy on e-bay, at least I haven't yet, but I really like the idea. I just hope that if there will be a lot of postings about what are sold and where, then maybe they should be put on the "FOR SALE/TRADE" forum instead, or what do you think? Personally I have only 2 stoves that are unlit and in tin, an Optimus 00 and a Primus 210. And I don't even have dublicates of them to use. But someday I will lit them up, as I don't think of them as "investing objects". They are just a part of my collection and in my mind they arent valuable in Pounds, Dollars, Euros or other existing currencies, actually I would say their value are about 10 ?LKJYEN (hope that currenciy dont exist anywhere) so there is no one that can give me the right price AT THIS MOMENT. But maybe I someday will make up an interchange rate for the "?LKJYEN" currency, who knows. Sincerely, Anders Anders
I have no problem with people discussing stoves which they have for sale, and indeed it may encourage the sale of stoves via the for sale section. Giving valuations is however a different ball game. In other walks of life if you ask someone more knowledgeable to value an item, you will be required to pay a valuation fee, and the valuer will no doubt incur some sort of liability for their work. We should not be asked to incur such a liability for free. Hence the warning in red on the site.
Yes, that's right. And You might also recall that I have asked people to read what it says in the top right corner also. But we could give them a value in a currency that don't exist more than in our minds as long as there isn't a interchange rate for that currency Anders
Now you've made me very curious.... OK, what then is the value of - let's say - a slightly battered but fully functional and complete Svea 123?
As I dont have one from before, I probably would say that it is about 25 G (Gush). They are nice stoves and I should have one on the way here to Finland, I have payed for it some 6 months ago but so far no stove... OK I am nut in a hurry and it is from an honest seller, it will come when I send the Optimus 111 that I promised him Anders
