I recently picked up a beautiful 00 off eBay. Has all of the parts except this. I tried using one from an Optipus 111 and a Svea 16 I had laying around, but both were too big.

Is this something I can just make rather than buying one from base-camp? I'm thinking a thin walled brass tube form Home Depot and then flare the end. Maybe I could even make something quick and dirty from a beer can or something.

Yeah, that flame ring for 00 is as common as hen's teeth. I wonder, if you will be able to find a pipe with the correct diameter to turn it into a usable one. It wouldn't hurt to look for one, I guess. But any soft metal, such as aluminium, would last only a few seconds under the intense heat.

The surest bet is to get it from the supplier.

Hi Rich, I just checked on the Base Camp site.
The 00 flame ring is "temporarily" out of stock.

I guess the Manaslu rings are still available and you can ask which one fits an Optimus 00.

If you are serious about trying to make one, here are some measurements I made of an 00-compatible flame ring:

The base of the ring is approx 38.4mm (1.5in.) in outside diameter.

This diameter is maintained for the first 10mm height.

The flame ring then starts to flare, gradually increasing in diameter until it reaches an outer diameter of approx. 46mm (1.8in.)at a height of about 17mm ( 0.67in.) from the base of the flame ring.

There is a 2mm-wide horizontal rim around the top of the flame ring.

This flame ring is made from brass, approx 0.8mm (32thou) thick.

    Good Luck with your efforts.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

They do work ,but they seem to be cast brass and a little brittle, I've used them with good results.

I had the same trouble with a 111B. I took the burner in to my local home improvement center and spent some time in the plumbing aisle. I found a copper reducer combined with another pipe fit quite well. I carefully cut them by hand with a hacksaw to the proper size, filed and polished them and the assembly worked very well. It just took some time and imagination.
