One of the larger hardware chain stores (Menard's) has free hand sanitizer in 3.5 ounce squeeze tubes. So, I grabbed the King's share for priming my kero stoves, along with lighting the charcoal biscuits for a weekend cookout on the barbie! Somedays..life IS good! Murph
Cant get it free here but $1 for a half litre bottle is pretty good. Dont you have to filter it through wholemeal bread? Sorry different purpose
@Murph don't tell anyone but I've been running my Trangia on hand sanitiser for the last six months. I use the gel burner attachment. Please keep it to yourself though. Si
I won't tell a soul, promise. The sanitiser I have seen is 70% alcohol, what is the other 30%? and does it also burn? Geoff
@Kiwi NZ Geoff, it's water and it helps the pans not to soot up too much, to be fair I just use it to boil water to put in dehydrated food and for a brew of tea. But free is still free. Si
I've used hand sanitizer as a priming paste in a pinch. It worked, but all I've seen has glycerine or something similar in it, leaves a sticky residue. I'd rather pay for the right stuff.
The 30% is water because for some reason it disinfects much better than if it was 100% alcohol. Go figure.
@Arvadaman it leaves a sticky residue which wipes off, I normally wipe the bottom of my Kettle off with a wet tea bag from making a brew anyway so it's no big deal. Si
