David I posted this link a little while ago on a similar thread which explains the dangers in unleaded petrol. http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/leadtet/leadh.htm quote...There is quite a lot of benzene in unleaded petrol; it makes up 1.4% of normal unleaded (out of 28 % aromatics) and 2.6% in 4 star unleaded (out of 45% aromatics). Not all the hydrocarbons get burned up in the engine so that some gets passed into the air. Benzene is believed to cause cancers, leukaemia and anaemia....... White spirit can also be added to ordinary cooking oil at a ratio of 1 part spirit to 5 parts oil in the production of bio diesel, I've yet to experiment to discover the ratio for bio paraffin but intend to give it a go sometime, should bring the paraffin cost down a bit, although will probably get some funny looks in the Asda checkout. Rik, I've not been there for a while but the Brains Surgery pub in Bath is a great boozer. Simes
Interesting.... Yet Coleman and others merrily produce 'dual fuel' lanterns which run on their own fuel (unsurprisingly) and unleaded petrol. Do Coleman not produce dual fuel stoves as well? (genuine question - I was born with the lamp collecting gene rather than the stove variant...) Having said that, it's likely that the amount of benzene released by all the worlds unleaded lanterns which happen to be lit at any particular time is a tiny proportion of that released by the worlds vehicles. Oh, and isn't it illegal to burn cooking oil in a vehicle? - something about evasion of fuel duty. They catch people doing this because their exhaust smells like Macdonalds or Burger King apparently. Cheers, David
