    Hi All,

Just a quick newbie question. I've got the Opitmus 99 from ebay couple weeks ago. It has a label said "For gasoline". Does it mean that this little one use unlead gasoline? I tried it with Kero and got only yellow flame no matter how long I primed it.

    Happy holiday

Thanks Robert. Do you think that I can use the Jet-M from the 111C ? I don't know that it'll need to match with the tank size and pressure for each model or not.

    Regards

    Morning, Som,

Congrats on giving that little Optimus 99 a new home! This little stove is a good one, but was not designed to run on kerosene. It should be run on Coleman fuel, or white gas, only. Some have used unleaded gasoline in similar stoves, but I do not recommend it. As it was designed for, and works best on, Coleman fuel, I'd say to stick with what works best: Coleman fuel, or white gas, period.

I have bought quite a few Optimus 99's, 8R's, and SVEA 123's, from owners who, for some reason, or another, just HAD to try to get them to run on kerosene!! They all have given up in frustration, and sold me their stoves for a buck, or two!!! You will have more fun, and get much more use out of your little stove, if you use the fuel for which it's designed. Good luck, and have fun! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

P.S. If you want to have a similar sized stove, that was actually designed to burn kerosene, then try to find an Optimus Ranger #10. It will be hard to find, and very expensive, once you find one. But, that stove was designed to burn only kerosene and diesel, and not any other fuel. It burns hot, simmers nicely, and is a wonderful stove. But, be prepared to pay BIG bucks for it! FYI.

    Hey, Doug, and Som,

When I have found a stove like the 99, 8R, or 123, that had kerosene in it, I usually pour out the kerosene, and then half fill the tank with clean Meths. I close the tank cap, and then give the stove a good shaking. After a minute, or so, I open the cap, pour out the Meths, and refill with clean Meths. I do this several times, shaking it all up each time. After that, I fill the entire tank with Meths, and let it set for an hour, or so. Then, I shake and pour, one last time, before filling the tank with Coleman fuel, and firing up the stove. It usually burns yellow for a bit, but soon kicks in with it's normal blue flame. After a few tanks of Coleman fuel, you will never know it ever had kerosene it in, and the stove will work a treat! Good luck, and God Bless!

Doc, I agree with you, clean out with meths then burn a couple of tanks of coleman, and clean the jet between burns ;)
