Hi all, Some members may recall posts from myself regarding restoration of a G. Barthel lab burner. I had a number of challenges, not least sourcing a suitable M6 size thread jet compatible with burning Aspen fuel or one of the alcohol fuels available. At last I have overcome these issues and it is running! I managed to locate a 0.46 jet aperture from a domestic gas cooker set which was supplied here in the UK with a new cooker for conversion if using Butane or propane instead of North Sea gas. After reading several threads on suitable aperture to run on methylated spirits I opted to increase the hole to 0.50, added fuel and away she went! Beautiful Blue flame! I have noticed that when the regulator is advanced to a certain point the flame starts to stutter. I think this may be due to the restricted size chosen for the aperture so far which is 0.50. I believe there is an issue with air/fuel mixture with the 0.50 jet which would be overcome with increased aperture. I have ordered some 0.28mm M6 jets for further experimentation. As usual the wealth of knowledge on this site was of great help. The thread by @Twoberth back in June 2019 on fuels and jet sizes was priceless. Not sure of the age of mine but I feel certain it has been many years since it was fired. The flame is very hot! Took less than 4 minutes to boil a pot of coffee using cold water. The pictures show it running at low output as I warmed it up. I will try and post a video if permitted with it running at higher output. Lovely sounding roar!. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
