I meant the quality of pump kerosene is less than the can.

Here in the US I've been considering the use of "Shell V-Power® NiTRO+ Premium Gasoline" they make the claim that it "removes up to 100% of performance-robbing deposits to rejuvenate your engine's performance."

As the most expensive gasoline available to me, it's still about 25% of the cost of Coleman fuel. I'd like to test it out in a straight tube generator stove like a coleman 502 and see how quickly it cokes up the generator. (502 generators are very easy to inspect and clean) If it works as promised, it'll be my go-to fuel for my Coleman 400 type stoves, the ones with the complex, hard to clean, and even harder to replace generators.

My plan is to fill my car with one gallon of the stuff (to get any of the regular unleaded out of the fuel pump hose) then fill up a few 1 gallon gas containers with it to take home for my stoves.

I would guess that the added additives do that. So, it might be worse.

In a car engine the fuel isnt subjected to high heat until its in the combustion chamber. It has to remain liquid until then. Any additives are easily dealt with and just end up as bits of soot in the exhaust. Camp stove is designed to vaporize the fuel before it enters the combustion zone and anything soluble but non volatile will be left behind. Guess where?

Here in Istanbul, the only option is the pump gasoline. I'm using Shell Fuelsave 95 and haven't had any problems in my stoves. I try to buy my gasoline from a crowded station so that the fuel in their tanks is replaced often.

Also I'm occasionally using my camp stuff in order to renew the gasoline inside the fuel tank in order not to let it sit for longtemps.

I have an MSR Dragonfly, modern petrol stove (multifuel but I only use 'petrol'). I have had it for over 20 years and is my main stove for cooking breakfast every day at work. It is fast and controllable. In the blurb it states to use the LOWEST grade of 'gasoline' (petrol) possible, because of the additive problem. High grade gasoline contains more additives that create blockages.

I use fast drying panel wipe from my local, friendly, car body repair shop. 5 litres lasts me ages and as brewing my own coffee is about 1/50th the price of buying a Costa, the slightly pricier fuel cost, but zero deposits over 2 decades, I have never cleaned the MSR or changed any parts yet. I have lubed the pump seal once!

My 8R had sat for about 10 years with this panel wipe in it. I got it out to try it lasyt night, I am back in love with the miniture gem! It fired straight up and ran blue with a cherry read spreader. I have some pictures to do for a magazine article, so I will put some up.

Out of interest, does my old MSR count as a classic? How old does a stove have to be before it is classed as a classic?

If you are in the UK: the Charlies chain are STILL selling meths (purple denatured alcohol) @ £6 for two litres.

...But if you get through reasonable quantities (and thankfully it doesn't 'go off'), the cheapest form of alcohol fuel in the UK is I believe here, £30.99 for 12 litres delivered and it gets even cheaper if you buy more.

Since a change of EU regulations in 2013 meths ceased being denatured with methanol. A bitterant is used, so it is now chemically identical to bioethanol. The only difference between the two for the last decade is the addition of purple dye to most meths, which likely provides more toxins to breathe in and can clog burners depending on the formulation of the dye.

    That’s good to know.

i use a Trangia as back up for those really bad last day mornings in camp. Otherwise I use sticks.

12 litres would last me a couple of decades - which is possible but somewhat optimistic! :)

Hi all, first post here. I recently got my Taylors 79KB burner working on my boat. It goes through a lot more Parrafin then I thought it would! Unfortunately I'm going to need quite a bit this winter so I'm looking for some other options

    In Ireland:

Woodies DIY: De Vielle 4 Litre Premium Grade Paraffin Oil €16.99 €4.25 per ltr
    B&Q: Bartoline Paraffin, 4000ml €18.05 €4.51 per l

Kerosene at the pump, Top Oil Kinsale Road, Cork: €1.09 per litre (smelly stuff).

"Tozane" €96 for two 20L drums. €2.40 per litre
"Zibro" €55 per 20L drum. €2.75 per litre From their website: "Exceeds the standard of BS 2869 C1 Grade Paraffin Zibro Plus ROLF Paraffin is Superior to C1 Paraffin and Domestic Kerosene"

Both the last two seem almost the same and the websites have physical shops so I'm going to try one of them. Zibro probably as that's where I can get to. There may be more places selling this stuff or similar but I haven't found it yet.

As for the kerosene, I already filled a 20 litre jerry can with the stuff (I didn't know any better at the time), would it be okay to mix in a bit over time with the Zibro?

Also does anyone know anything about Dipetane? It's a fuel additive for engines but I've found one or two people saying online that they're using it...

    Welcome, @doggy23.

On a boat, where quick maintenance is often difficult, I’d be using only the purest paraffin (kerosene) you can get.

Check the MSDS of anything you’re buying against that for JetA or JetA1. These are aircraft jet engine standards and are a close as you’ll find to pure kerosene (sometimes with ant-freeze added). I use Jet A1 because that’s about all that is supplied in Australia (often died blue; sold under various brand names).

    In Ireland

Aspen 4T from Quinns of Baltinglas.
    Bio ethanol from B&Q

If in a bind then get a can of lighter fuel from any shop like Dealz or Mr Price (expensive way to run a stove)

It certainly appears that way. This started in January, so likely you won't find any now unless a warehouse finds a gallon and send it to a local store.

Don’t think this place has got a mention before. Hammerton Street Filling Station, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD3 9QQ sells “kerosene” from the pump. Reading the pump (the place was closed when passed in the evening) currently £1.10 per litre.

Do they mean heating oil, C2? That is the only kerosene sold in Ireland at petrol stations and I wouldn't use it in my stove. It is for central heating boilers.
