regarding the ribbed collar on the 1930's version, I think the ribs may help the hot collar expand to better fit on the tapered top of the vapouriser, plenty of surface area contact between the two parts ensures adequate heat flow to the fuel just a theory, my only 96 dates from the late 40's and I am not exactly wearing it out if you get my drift
This article is an example of what makes CCS so valuable to collectors. Going through my examples of the 96 I was able to see which parts were correct and which weren't. It was also how I spotted what might be a small variation of the V3 reserve cap, with vertical knurling rather than diagonal. This was on my 1919 96, which is otherwise correct.
