Hi there, with the help of Bernie's videos about the Svea 123R (thank you!!), I dared to dis- and reassemble mine... All went according to plan but when I screwed the burner back onto the tank I ran into a problem. I remembered the advice to turn it on hard but I could even turn it about 1/3 past my mark at the "A" Then it wouldn't go around any further. I used quite a bit of force but no more. I did not dare to use the bench vise though. I'm scared to over twist it. I fired it up anyway and it did work although the flames were quite "yellowish". Here are some pics: What would you recommend? Do you think I have already turned it too far or is there still 2/3 missing?? The good thing is: The key meets exactly the next hole in the windscreen
I suspect brass threads on the burner assembly and on the font get slightly cut or worn when they are loosened and then tightened as you did. Kind of the same way a lock and key wear in together. I've noticed the same thing happens on some of my stoves and lanterns but as long as they snug down properly w/o over tightening, I'm OK with it. Unless you counted the revolutions it's hard to be sure if you are 2/3 too loose or 1/3 too tight but I suspect it's the latter. Looks to work just fine and the key mates up well with the windscreen so you might play it safe.
I believe factory assembled Svea 123 all have the control arm lined up over the number 1 of the 123. Good to know if you're buying one untested to know if a stove had been messed with. Try putting a pot of water on the pot holders and see if the yellow flame goes away.
I'm with Doug on this. I line all my 123's with the number 1 of the 123. That said, if yours goes a little farther and the key still lines up, I wouldn't worry. The color of the flame isn't because of turning the stem a little too far. Did you replace the wick? john
Thanks for your answers. I did put some copper paste on the thread but not much. The same kind that I had always used for the spark plugs on my VW van The wick seemed ok to my untrained eyes. It was a little greenish but not burnt. Maybe I should replace it anyway.
