I was in Wellington during the highest wind gust ever recorded in NZ. A solid 202kph at Wellington airport. Took the drain pipe off my garage. However the strongest wind I ever experienced was not that. It was at the TV transmitter on Wariti Peak near Palmerston North. We decided it was a good idea to leave when we noticed the 4wds being blown sideways. If you ever went up to the transmitter on Mount Kaukau Warity has the same design except it has extra bracing quadrupling its footprint
