I'm a happy bunny with my new kettle and my modified biscuit tin/windshield (pictures to come when the paint has dried). :D

You drive a Morris Minor & make your tea on a Primus - what is the rush?? 8)

& just so Parramethtrol can use his favourite :rage: smilie - here's a pic of what the kettle can look like if well 'looked after'

Let's face it. None of Para's gear is going to get a look in if they ever do a remake of Steptoe and Son. On the other hand, some of Ross's gear will fit in very nicely and might earn a few pennies on hire....

Excellent, maybe with a bit of effort (and lots and lots of tea) my kettle can be made to look that immaculate!

Here are some pictures of my biscuit tin stove box/wind shield; stripped, modified to make one side removable, and repainted. There was enough of a breeze when I took the photos that I would have had trouble priming it without a wind shield. I found that I could get even more wind shielding without smothering it by leaning the removable side against the box with a gap at the bottom.

The main drawback with the current arrangement is that the pan ring is about an inch below the top of the box, which would probably cause a problem with a frying pan. Some kind of raising block or feet extensions under the stove would cure this.

And yes Keith, the sharp edges have all been carefully folded over! :D

I've been camping twice since the last time I posted on this thread, and the Primus 5/biscuit tin combo has seen a fair bit of use in the field.

Fried eggs and a mug of tea for breakfast at the MMOC National Rally:

    (The green car is mine.)

Sausage and beans, with a mug of tea for dinner late in the evening at Bacheldre Watermill campsite in mid-Wales:

As you can see the stove is already starting to take on a patina from use, particularly where the lacquer peeled off the tank.

Poached eggs and (you guessed it!) a mug of tea for breakfast the next morning: :D

The bug has truly bitten and I've since bought a couple more paraffin stoves on eBay; an R M MFG Picnic and a Monitor 17b. The 17b needs a new folding leg and the lipstick vaporiser is missing - at least it was pretty cheap. 8)

Incidentally, pretty off-topic, but I may soon be fettling this beauty of a classic stove for my best friend (it comes with a house she's in the process of buying):

It's a coal fired Rayburn Royal kitchen range. This is what it looks like inside:

A little more than citric acid and Brasso may be required to get this stove clean!
