    Hi, Briantse,

I'm so glad you posted your note on this forum!! I hope you will be a frequent visitor and that we can learn how you came to be interested in stoves, and what sorts of stoves are of interest to you.

As to your questions: I think that the Optimus #9 is going to be harder to find than maybe some other stoves. But, I'll bet, if you keep looking, and asking about it, someone will be able to point you in the right direction to find one. I would like to have one, too. So, if I find two of them, there will be one for me, and one for you!

With your coil burner stoves, I think it all depends on which stove you have. Some of them, like the Tay-Kit stove, are very well made, and can be used without worry of danger. However, some other coil burners are very poorly made, like the Handy Camper, and should be used with extreme caution, or not at all!

As a suggestion, you might post your "wants" in the "wanted" section of this site. I did that recently, and one of our good Stove Mates responded with exactly what I was seeking! Give it a try, and see if that helps you.

Thanks, again, for posting your questions! We have recently discussed that fact that many of our Stove Brothers from the Orient do not visit here often enough. Welcome, and please join our family by posting regularly, and telling us about your collection, and your likes and dislikes about stoves. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

    Briantse,

Glad to have you on the site. Welcome aboard. I don't know that you will ever find an Optimus 9 and if you do, I plan on finding it first. Good luck and happy hunting. I hope to see you on the site. It is a wonderful place to talk stove and to make new friends.

Strange isn't it, I was just telling a friend today that I will probably never see an Opti 9, but I live in hope. Then this message pops up.

When was the last time anyone saw one on Ebay? And (whisper it) what did it fetch?

    Cheers
    GC

Last I remember (not having been checking ebay out for a long time) was the one Ross bought at least 2 years ago, if not more. Was at least $750 as I remember; perhaps a good deal more.

    GULP

Oh well, perhaps one day in the dusty corner of a tatty junk shop I will make a happy discovery.

    We can only dream.

Hold onto your socks gentleman. I do know someone that has one and is entertaining the thought of selling it. It is like brand new and has the original instructions. I have been working this chap for about three months. I have a picture of it somewhere and I will see if I can post it or at least put somewhere were the rest of you, including me, can worship it. I told him to name his price and he said he would give me first shot at it granted I can count that high. I really would like to share this fellows name but I must keep this one a secret. I really would love to gloat. It is one of the things in life that I am good at.

I have dreams of finding a #9 in a junk shop for next to nothing. The ironic part is that I would likely sell it for airfare to England for next year's gathering.
