    Hi,

Those words from OMC seem very wise words .. I've shown the "potential profit" to my girlfriend a few times and that worked well. I never had an issue with her over buying another stove again. So it seems there's a catch if the money (ever) gets tight ..

Cooking with classic camp stoves convinces her too, since classic stoves are seriously good at it 8) nobody's complaining when we're making a lot of pancakes at high speed on, let's say, a Campingo or a Heinze Geniol. When camping over here, a lot of people cook on low-powered Campingaz stoves that cost a lot to run (Campingaz is expensive compared to proper stove fuel  ), so they're not used to really "cook" when camping. With a classic stove I can really "cook" something properly.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Edit: A good pressure lamp is invaluable as well. It provides good light to read with, gives off heat and adds to the comfort of your outdoor stay

    Billyboy,

Does your wife like to camp? If so, then you have three ways to "win her heart" for stoves, etc.)

1 - Do your homework, and cook up something extra fancy for her to enjoy, complete with a nice salad, and some good wine.

2 - Camp when it's getting a tad colder, and when she says, "I'm cold", you step up and say, "Not to worry, Honey, I'll help warm you up"! Get out a great heater, like a Tilley, a Primus 110, or even a Coleman, if you don't have something better, and make sure to keep it close enough to warm her right up.

3 - Get a good camping oven, and make her a great breakfast each day, complete with scones, or biscuits, or some other tasty baked delight.

I am fairly sure that one, or all three of these ideas might work for you!! Give them a try, and report back with any successes you enjoy!! Good luck, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Hi, my name is Jon. I am a stove-a-holic with a growing lantern problem.
I told myself absolutely no more stoves a few weeks ago. I think I've only bought 6 since then.
I said no more lanterns because I have plenty and I am not a "lantern guy". I've lost count of how many I've bought in the past few weeks. Probably close to 10.
    Sigh.
Time for some to go away! Of course this is only making room for more! ;)

I gave up a nicotine addiction in January. I was dipping tobacco for years.
I was telling a friend last night that this stove thing could be worse. It could be cocaine. He said, rather profoundly, "It could be chew..."

May be some replacement addition going on here...

    1. Buy it, put it away for a couple of months and then when she spots it you can truthfully say you have had it for ages.
    2. Do not tell your kids, they blackmail you or simply blab. =;
    3. Complete a few projects for her and earn some brownie points.
    4. Hint: I am fortunate in having stuff mailed to me at school, ie an alternative mailing address.:idea::-k:-k
    5. Say let's look in that shop. Ignore the obvious pristine Model 123 sitting in the corner and let her spot it. My most expensive purchase ever was purchased yesterday, this way :D/ and I did not have to follow rules 1 to 4.
    6. Re-read Shagratork's advice, above, which is very sound.
    7. Explain you are buying it for a trade, and will be getting rid of it soon. :^o
    8. Place a lock on the stove / lamp cabinet for safety reasons. ;)

Well, I was given fair warning of the stove pox and kerosene only temporarily delays the symptoms.
My wife supports my stoving, has found some, likes the stovie friends she has met, and is glad I don't collect cars.

Of the stoves she has fired up she prefers the Trangia kit.

I have to know "when to fold them".

For a while now I have been cooking things like cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, fish, beans, (and anything else that might adversely perfume the house) out in the back yard on a selection of stoves I keep on the porch. Use different stoves for different purposes. For example a single burner is perfect for bacon as all spatter goes overboard onto the lawn. You will need several singles for multiple pots, of course. I now regularly have requests from my wife to fire up a stove and not a complaint or question for ages!

Cool idea, Rob. We had a fish fry last night. The 505b did a great job keeping the oil up to temp and all the splatter and drippings went, as you say, overboard.

    HI,
I am a stove-a-holic, it has been 11 minutes since my last impulse stove purchase
Like others I rationalize / justify WHY "I really should buy this particular stove", this may or may not
also involve "if I get this stove i will then sell that stove(s)".
I say I am thinning the herd and stoves ARE going out the door BUT, to-date, month by month, there are
still more coming in than are going out. I am a work in progress.
It is SO easy to buy and selling is not nearly as easy. Saturday night, time to chill,

    i will have a Corona,

    thx omc
