You’ve been around here long enough to know old stuff usually needs pips and or cap washers replaced. It is very easy to replace the cap gasket. Duane
It seems my cap gasket is OK after all, but the cap needs a rebuild. I'll contact Katadyn as you suggested. I'm wondering if they would carry a pump-type cap, not just the standard cap. I'll find out! I also sent a query to the eBay seller regarding the availability of the small parts (and special penta tool) necessary to rebuild the pump cap. Thanks very much, Bob
From eBay seller Super Corse Lantern... Tool for the pentagon fitting on the cap: $36.00 + $13.00 shipping + 20% import fee + unknown processing fee from the shipper. And, from another source: rebuild kit with pips but no pip cups, $24.95. Gosh... I can get almost everything I need to repair it for under a hundred bucks! Or I could get a new pump cap that my pump may or may not fit onto for $19.00 + same shipping, import fee and processing fee. Guess I'll live with the standard cap. Bob
Agreed. I always thought it was an interesting accessory that made getting the stove to emit some fuel for priming easier and more "mechanical," if that's the right word. Just one more gadget to enjoy... Bob
To me it seemed more trouble and fiddly bits than it was worth. A squirt bottle say, with a little alcohol accomplishes the same thing. When found in the wild the kit almost always includes a blown out cap, because the enthusiast couldn’t be bothered to read the instruction sheet and pumped it up like a Coleman lantern. Not one of Optimus better ideas.
