    @Giri
    Thanks, I will create similar threads on MSR stoves and pumps in the near future.

    @tekkster

    It was a wild ride! 22 plus MSR stoves were sold that included the Model 9, 9A, MF, DF, G, GK, X-GK and Firefly's. White pumps, yellow pumps and 1981 MSR fuel bottles were sold with most of the stoves.

    If only I had been on more and searching stuff more in the last 6 months. So sad....so very very sad.

    But congrats on getting it all sold.

    I was not the seller. My part in this was to show evidence that these items belonged to Larry Penberthy by demonstrating how the handwriting is a match and making the eBay story plausible.
    I believe the story.

    Hi Oddball, all,
    Thx again, I reviewed the items as they were offered, some I competed for.
    At this point, to YOUR credit, I sense a ground swell that these sold items were more likely than not Larry's items.

    I just searched sold MSR items and came up empty. For those that know item #s, I think a search for the item # pops up access to the complete "original ad"? (this access WILL expire btw, if it hasn't already).
    These 2 points for me are joined: I have my own practice to limit my discussion of ebay sellers -and- I confess I lost track of that seller ID :( (so members do as u wish, I wish that seller's ID might appear in a PM to me :content: ).

    Re "...and that the eBay story is true." Including some titles, dates and text from descriptions ("the story") from the original ads would be a welcome compliment to these details.

    I am an oddball (re sellers) in that, I would not "post" seller ID unless the seller were onboard and specifically requested that his seller ID be posted. I understand ID is public but, currently the info serves it's purpose and expires. A post on (google searchable) CCS is quite different, for one it is archived.
    thx omc

    The seller specifically requested his/her posts and threads be deleted here. I do not see a reason to dredge that up against their request.
    They purposely used a different name here than ebay. Let's please honor that.
    His/her experience here was not a positive one. Lets let the seller be.

    I don't recall deleting any posts around this subject although I appreciate the comment above only states the user requested for that to be done.

    I think a bit of respect all around would go a long way.

    @oddball - genuine curiosity here. Was the helmet from the same seller as the stoves? If not I'm wondering what prompted them to appear on ebay at around the same time

    That's why I haven't used any names or links, and yes, Spiritburner, the helmet was from the same seller as are Larry Penberthy's gloves I just posted.

    Here's another handwriting comparison that validates the information at the start of this thread.

    Were Larry's associates light fingered? :lol: Seems he was keen not to lose his gear!

    When doing activities in the Seattle Mountaineers (Olympia and Tacoma chapters too), you may have your gear put into a pile.
    For instance, doing a crevasse rescue class. Hats, gloves, etc are taken off, and you can't put them in your pack, because you may be the one belaying, hence you are 'attached' to a rope and anchored to the snow. That's one example.
    Classes are run every year, and classes last for several years, so there are quite a few field trips all year long. It is easy to have similar gear mixed up. I am assuming Larry was an active member of the Mountaineers.

    My mistake - due to identity & privacy issues I did agree to delete a members account.

    Thanks Ross. And with those threads were some of the posts I was referring to. There were photos in the posts of 'some' of the items mentioned here. Same photos on the auction site. That was easy to put 2 and 2 together. Questioning statements were made. It got a bit tense. There were other new members fishing for more bay buyers, too. So suspicions were higher at that time.
