Here are a few pictures of a 111B loaded with panel wipe giving me what for. In my haste to add another 111 to the already lit 80+ 111's at Newark I filled up an untested 111B with panel wipe and continued to lite it. All was well for 30 seconds and then... Goodness gracious great ball's of fire. I was ready to lob this as far away from my gazebo as possible but parra came to the rescue with a wet towel. The stove was saved and after checking it over I found out that the NRV had not been tightened up. Breakfast was cooked on this stove the following day and all was well but it has taught me a lesson. Always check newly acquired stoves before firing them up.
I had the exact-same moment at Sykeside in November 2005. The NRV gave way on an untested 111B allowing fuel to escape, then WOOF! (to be fair, the stove had been described by it's former owner, one H. Pugh, as "a bit of a dog") and everyone but me was doing the 100m hurdles in every direction. I can't remember just how it was put out, but some kind soul came to my rescue and did the necessary. Anyway, Ian subsequently fettled it for me and it's run without missing a beat ever since - 'Rex' as the stove is known, was one of the triumphant 84 last weekend*. Seriously though, that's what you get when petrol/panel wipe/Coleman-type fuels are burned in a stove which utilises what is, essentially, kerosene technology. Tut-tut, Optimus! (and others) - not really a good idea to incinerate your customers... *As it happens, last Saturday I'd filled it with 85%kerosene/15% petrol mixture by mistake and discovered that it runs excellently on that. Next time it'll be unadulterated kerosene and we'll see how it goes. 8)
Wow those are some great pictures!!! I am glad everyone and everything is okay. A good lesson learned and a reminder. I have seen a few 111's for sale on ebay that look like they have caught on fire. And some that it looks like the lid was closed while on fire. Cheers, Jeff

Your right Si, you was the cool head amongst our trio and a fine supervisor you do make. I would also like to thank you (Big Si) for supplying all the paraffin and meths for the cooking of de curry, and more than enough meths and paraffin to keep me stoves and lamps going for another 6 months.

hi Nick the photo's where after the main flare up there was a fiery mushroom that covered the inside of Den's gazebo when it first went up that's why i'm staring up at the roof in the pics
