It's propane these days, but when I referred to 'LPG' in my previous post I was using the term generically and when LPG became commonly available in the UK in the 1930's butane was what was on sale. Propane was first retailed by the company in 1955. This from the history of Calor outlined on their website HERE:
Hi John, I received my Lilor yesterday. Second I bought, the first one came a few weeks ago and was in a good shape, but the previous owner polished the whole upper part and the whole bottle. So it lost the majority of its grey paint. The one I received yesterday came complete with the box (not fresh, but not so bad), instructions, a spare bottle and an unclogging tool (in fact two, still in their paper protection). First, I was really disappointed about the stove. I thought, according to the grey paint, that it had been recovered by another lay of grey paint by the owner, because of the bad paint work. But I checked out with another Lilor stove I have (the trapezoidal one), which came with an unused gas bottle still in its sealed paper. It was for sure the same low-quality paint job, attesting it was like that since the beginning. So here's my question: on yous, does it also feel like the paint job is not fantastic? I mean: mine is rusting under the paint, and I can see paint drips / traces / extra thickness on some areas. Bastien.
It’s not up to automobile standard, I’ll grant. The gas bottles would be an exchange item, like Camping Gas 901, 904, 907 are, so it’s to be expected their appearance degrades in time.
Sure. On mine, the hood that cover the bottle and support the burner has also a poor paint job, not only the gas bottles... It's not really a major issue and I'll keep it that way as it is "in condition of use", and original with no modification. But let's say that the general quality of the paintings was not a high standard. The overall aspects of the stove are (many safeties to prevent from gas leaks, for example), and so is the design (in my opinion it is a beautiful gassie), but for me that paint seems not up to the task.
@presscall I got the same Lilor Réchaud 167 stove in 2016. There is still a lot of fuel in it, I don't use it because I don't know how to fill it back I saw the plug adapter you made, but I still don't know how to do it.
