Went to an estate sale today (actually hoping to find a coleman lantern). No lanterns, but spotted a well used set of pots with a Sigg lid, so grabbed it figuring I can always use another pot for camping. Took it home, sight unseen.

Started to pull it apart, and was really pleased to see that it had a complete set of Sigg pots and the support for a Coleman stove, along with a mystery pot with no markings on it.

Opened the unmarked pot, and really started to get excited! Could that be the lid to an Optimus 88 pot set!

    1288467364-Inside_3.jpg

Yes!!! Here is the whole thing unpacked.

    1288467440-Inside_4.jpg

    What a deal!

The support that holds the stove does not have the bail hold-down that I have noticed in other sets in the gallery, merely two slots that the stove slides in to. Is this an earlier or later example of the 88?

The cost of this princely haul? $2.25 USD.

    Howdy, Fuelish,

You, Sir, are under ARREST, for having STOLEN those items from some poor, unsuspecting seller!!!!  ;) ;) 8) 8)   What a great deal you got!! I dearly LOVE it when Stovies fall into such wonderful finds as you have shared with us today!! Well done, Sir!!

The Sigg Tourist is most certainly setup for a Coleman Peak One stove. And, the mystery pot looks to be one from Sigg, too, but a tad earlier. Last, the smallest kit is an Optimus 88, indeed, and the stove supports are exactly as yours has, with no wires to hold the stove down. Some other kits had that, earlier ones, I think, but all three of my Optimus 88N kits do not have the wire hold-down option. Some of those kits had two pots, but others only had one pot, FYI.

Again, what a fantastic find, Fuelish!!! Count your lucky stars, and be thankful for that outstanding blessing!!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    good estate find!

but, hey, where's the stove head?

i check out the local flea market every Sat/Sun... have not seen a single brassie over the past six years, but plenty of Coleman two-burners, a couple 502s (one w/a heater), and numerous lanterns...

currently looking for at least one of the older Coleman reflectors w/the red or black handle...

    happy hunting, all!

"but, hey, where's the stove head?"

The stove is all there, you just can't see it in the picture. The only thing missing is the red plastic cap that comes with the kit to top the stem when the head is removed.

I don't expect that I will have another find like this for a long time!

    Hey, Fuelish,

Hummmm.... :-k :-k :?: I've never seen "the red plastic cap" to which you're referring. Maybe someone put one on a SVEA, once upon a time, but I have quite a few the little devils, and have seen tons more, and none of them, to my knowledge, came with a red plastic cap, for use when the burner head is removed.

Having said that, it's not a bad idea, and in fact, I've done that with quite a few of my "Plug and Play" stoves, like the MSR X-GK, and many others. Keeps junk out of the fuel line, when the stove is all packed up. Take care, and God Bless!

Oh no, I have to pick up a 99 and a 88 now too? I'll have my car up on blocks, needing tires. I see a 99 for sale on Evilbay, 20 miles from work and on the way home.

Thats not QUITE the man who won the state lottery, but it's damn close! Outstanding score! If everything in the universe balances, now I know where the flip side of my 'close but no banana' episode went. Nice one.

Thanks for all of the kind words (?!). I spent some time yesterday cleaning so...

Here is a picture of the set(s) cleaned up a bit

    1288652807-Cleaned_set.jpg

And one of the little SVEA at work...

    1288652844-Flame_shot.jpg

Overall, the sets are in good shape except the lid for the Sigg Set looks like someone took a cobbler's hammer to it. The Pots are excellent though.

I have another question. Included in the set was a small wrench. It has no markings on it except its size "5/16". It does not fit any of the fittings on the SVEA.

    1288653023-Wrench.jpg

I was wondering if this might be from an 8R Optimus stove?

    HI, Fuelish,

Great job! Did you replace the fuel cap gasket with a new one of Nitrile rubber? Looks like your flame, if is on high, should be a bit larger, I'm thinking. As a matter of course, I replace the gaskets on all stoves I find, as if they are hard, even the least little bit, they will not allow full pressure to build up in the stove, and the flame may appear weaker than it otherwise should be.

That extra little wrench looks like it was made for the Coleman Peak One stoves, I believe.

Again, congrats on scoring a great combo of goodies!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc
