Best of all, everyone who reads this thread knows to be leery of the seller. I am making note of his location and handle for future stove hunting.
Thanks Doc, and Bill, I'm sure, will let us know how this one turns out.
    Best,

    Bill,
None of my affair, but perhaps a nice communication to the seller with an inventory of EXACT parts and description of same as shown in his sales info might be in order. Hope it works out and am sure it will. These folks can't last too long withseveral/many negative feedbacks.....or can they?

    Best,
    Bob

*Ahem* The quote above is a couple pages back, but........

No. You don't. You just need a "Dragon Tamer" cap instead of a standard midi. Slightly lower profile and slightly smaller diameter base to drop it deeper into the burner bell.

Thanks to Hikin' Jim and the newly repaired Dragonfly I brought back from CASG#3, I was able to work out this small variation so that the cap can be wired in place and remain in position when folding the stove. In fact, I'm thinking about adding some legs like I have on the OmniDawg which would both act to stabilize the cap in the bell, as well as hold it under tension in the bell. With the cap legs holding it instead of wire, the cap could be swapped out in the field for the burner plate. Though why you would want to escapes me. Maybe if you wanted to bug the neighboring campers or perhaps signal for help with the stoves deafening roar?

YouTube videos are available to see the cap in full-range burning mode, and to see how it folds.

    Enjoy!

PS - I almost forgot. Here's one that's still in the experimental stages to address Parra's overheating potstands on his newer XGK. It's discussed earlier in this very long-running thread. That stove has very wide potstands, so special methods must be used. Shown here on an older XGK (the only one I have).

Wow Gary, nice videos! Looks like another successful mod for the Dragoon-Fly (intentionally spelled that-a-way). Only one word - 3 syllables ...amazing! Also that familiar voice ha ha ha. You were able to put HJ's repaired DF to the test. BTW did you just silbraze the bottom or used a special alloy? 3 thumbs up there

    Hi Ron
I silbrazed it. Took a bit of fussing, but the filler flowed nicely eventually. I've been cleaning the stove up this morning as it still had flux residue and burnt pasta starch and lots of carbon from past use. The fiberglass preheat wick was worn out, so I dropped a new one in before I reassembled it.

Looks like this now. Better, but not perfect, but good enough, I reckon.

It still made a fair bit of noise though or was that just due to the position of the microphone?

Well, it's a treat to see my own stove on YouTube. She looks good, Gary, really good! I'm quite impressed. The midi cap I ran on her at CASG3 worked so well, I was surprised when you said that you had made some improvements. Improvements? There was room for improvement? But sure enough you have. Not having to remove the cap will be a big boon to use (not to mention preventing the loss of a BD cap!).

I hope to soon have a Dragon Tamer here in S. Calif. to run. :) So what will the maker's mark be on this series? DT? I've definitely got the DT's to start running a Dragonfly on one!

Bill, when you've used your midi cap on your D'fly, it appears that your cap did not get overly hot, yes? I was using mine last night and the cap got to glowing red. I think that somehow or another I'm getting into underburn. Does your cap normally stay below red hot when in use on your D'Fly?

    hi Jim
can't help you on that mate i did try the cap and it worked perfectly but mine is a wobbly fit so i haven't tried it again,
i just wanted to try it out on as many different stoves as i could so i could let Gary have as much feedback as possible

btw the firefly came this morning ;) it isn't 100% perfect but i am very happy with the deal and the seller,
if i was mean minded i could claim item not as described but in fairness he bent over backwards to be helpful and waited patiently for payment as paypal was being a pain in the arse to me so i couldn't check out for a day or three
i had most of the cash sitting in paypal but they refused to let me use my balance and would only take a credit card payment
i didn't have enough in my bank to cover it until i got the paypal balance transferred over,
he never moaned and was as good as gold about it, he also sent the stove unsigned for at a risk to himself to keep the shipping down for me and was very generous on the customs form so i had no duty or vat to pay
so i'm more than happy to put up with the minor problem with it
and it came with a wearever pot that is a beauty if ever i get to visit the states i'm going to raid all you yanks cupboards and lofts for more old wearever pots and percs as i really like them
i nearly asked you for another favour this week but thought better of it

OK, thanks, Bill. I'll have to play with it a bit more to try to understand what's happening. I didn't catch on that anything was awry for a bit since I had a pot on the boil and a windscreen 'round the pot.

Well, it never hurts to ask, mate. :) Just don't ask me to try to ship an artic hut stove.

    Evening, Bill,

I'm VERY glad to hear that all worked out well with this particular seller. I would not buy from him again, after my sour experience. But, maybe he learned something from that, and is doing better, now, which is outstanding!! Congrats, and if there is anything wrong with your Fire Fly, with which I can help, please let me know, and I'll do my best. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Please pardon the lack of knowledge...new to the site. Who makes the dragon-tamer caps, and is he selling them? Looks like a great modification. I am not that handy unfortunately.

Just follow the thread back, and you shall see, that it's the top Dawg in this company. The thread's not too long; don't fear the journey. In the end, you'll find it's Bernie.

You will have to be added to his long list and seasonal production. I mean he does not make them all year round ;)
